This is a non-exempt, hourly position with a range of: $31.29-$41.30 or $65,081-$85,907 (annual) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. The list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.) Coordinates daily play on the golf course. Assists with the collection, deposit and accounting of golf course fees and charges in accordance with the city of Thornton's policies and procedures. Assists in the design, scheduling, and implementation of pace-of-play programs that result in maximum revenues coupled with high levels of customer satisfaction. Provides a high level of guest service to all players and visitors. Responds to requests, concerns and inquiries from the public. Creates markets and executes a tournament program designed to significantly enhance course revenues. Works with community groups and area businesses in developing and expanding tournaments and special event play. Negotiates the details of the tournament such as scheduling rentals and processing agreements. Assists with set-up and implementation. Provide expert golf instruction to customers of all skill levels, including juniors and women. Performs a variety of support functions to assist the Golf Professional. Assists with the coordination and management of men's, women's , and senior leagues. Supervises and directs the activities of assigned staff; makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, termination or advancement of employees. Schedules employees, assigns work, and monitors progress; guides, trains and develops employees in the accomplishment of their duties and professional growth; may evaluate performance. Supervises and manages the pro shop operation in the absence of the Golf Professional. Ensures that all current golf policies and procedures are in accordance with those of the city of Thornton policies and procedures. Monitors and enforces policies on a daily basis. Enforces all golf course policies and procedures. Coordinates golf activities to include tournaments, banquets and other special events. Works with the golf shop and Food and Beverage Staff to provide maximum service and enhance per-round revenue. Performs routine maintenance and repairs of facilities and equipment, including diagnosing problems, arranging maintenance and repairs, and ensuring the ongoing safety of carts, cart barn and clubhouse. Communicates regularly with other members of the management team to discuss activities, goals, and plans. Attends or conducts a variety of meetings such as staff meetings, employee briefings and trainings. Prepares and maintains records in regard to daily revenues, as well as monthly and yearly reporting requirements. Prepares daily cash receipts and bank deposits when necessary. Assists in marketing of the Golf Course, including planning, website design and editing, e-blasts, etc. Assists with inventory control of pro shop, including receiving, pricing, displaying, and accounts payable. Required to work weekends and holidays. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED supplemented by college-level course work in recreation or related field. Three (3) years of experience as an assistant golf professional with experience in operating a high-volume municipal golf facility with three (3) years' full-time experience working under a PGA professional. Experience in golf shop operations, including merchandising, managing staff and cart fleet management, required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Licensing/Certification Requirements: Must be a PGA Member or Apprentice in good standing with the Professional Golf Association (PGA). May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the Community Services Department. Knowledge of Thorncreek Golf Course Rules and Regulations. Knowledge of the game of golf, and golf merchandise. Knowledge of basic golf etiquette and the principles of customer service. Knowledge of city of Thornton purchasing and personnel policies and procedures. Knowledge of the principles of management, including budgeting, employee supervision, and training. Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the public. Skill in the safe and lawful operation of all required equipment. Skill in oral and written communication, including speaking publicly and interacting with the community. Skill in providing excellent customer service and public relations. Skill in providing expert instruction to golfers. Ability to work well and communicate with the public and others. Ability to tactfully and consistently advise players of rules and regulations, and golf etiquette. Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software, including word processing, database management, spreadsheet applications, internet, and electronic mail. Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the functions of the position, i.e., telephone, PA system, and Point of Sale (POS) System. Ability to develop, manage, coordinate and promote programs. Ability to coordinate and schedule public facility rentals. Ability to implement and maintain website and computerized online reservation system. Ability to prepare daily deposits and routine monthly and annual reports. Ability to draft, recommend, interpret, and apply operating policies and procedures. Ability to develop budgets and approve or monitor expenditures. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public in adverse/confrontational situations. Ability to promote and provide quality customer service and resolve problems. Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences. Ability to prepare cash deposits and process refunds. Ability to regularly exercise significant discretion and independent judgment for daily operations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, other agencies, and the general public. Ability to train and lead employees in normal golf course operations. Ability to work as a team member and to organize and lead staff as a team. Ability to supervise, direct and train employees. Ability to follow oral and written direction from others. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, or flexible schedules. Physical and Mental Requirements: While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hearing, and make repetitive motions. This position is mostly heavy work; exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee is required to have close visual acuity and visual acuity to determine accuracy. The employee is subject to both inside and outside conditions, extreme cold and heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and function in narrow aisles or passageways.
