We’re searching for an enthusiastic, experienced Assistant Hospital Director (AHD) to join our dynamic team at Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)—a thriving, 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital in the vibrant heart of Hollywood, California—you’ll be joining an organization that is all about delivering superior veterinary care with compassion. Your Role:
As an Assistant Hospital Director, you’ll be a key player in our hospital’s leadership team. Partnering closely with the Managing DVM and Hospital Director, you’ll help ensure smooth operations, a high level of patient care, and a positive environment for both clients and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Hospital Operations:Oversee daily hospital functions and work closely with the team to ensure optimal efficiency.Collaborate with Support Staff Schedulers to strategically plan staffing and monitor labor costs within the budget.Partner with hospital leaders to problem-solve and exceed client needs while ensuring top-notch patient care.Help drive hospital growth and revenue by working with the Managing DVM and Hospital Director.Serve as the hospital’s OSHA and Safety Officer, developing and maintaining a safety program.Act as a resource to all hospital areas, offering guidance and support where needed.Handle client resolutions and ensure exceptional service at all times.Stay up to date on the latest features of EzyVet (our hospital operating system).Manage communication with Ethos IT and assist with troubleshooting, updates, and equipment upgrades.People Management:Work closely with the Managing DVM and Hospital Director on staffing, including hiring, training, and performance management.Play an active role in employee recruitment and the selection process.Oversee employee training, orientation, and performance appraisals.Mentor employees and foster a culture of continuous learning and development.Assist in implementing rewards and recognition programs to motivate the team.Help mediate conflicts and ensure strong employee morale.Support the management of client service staff and help maintain licensure compliance for all necessary employees.Financial Responsibilities:Partner with the Hospital Director to manage payroll processes and financial oversight of revenue and expenses.Collaborate on budget planning and strategic financial decisions.Approve expenses for processing and manage accounts receivable as needed.Communicate with vendors to maintain strong relationships and ensure timely payment of hospital equipment and supplies.
What You Bring:
Knowledge:Supervisory experience (3+ years preferred). The ideal candidate is a seasoned vet med professional looking to take their skills to the next level.Understanding of accounts payable and receivable.Strong customer service skills and marketing techniques.In-depth knowledge of HR policies and procedures.Experience with staff management, including hiring, benefits, payroll, and performance development.Skills:Expertise in customer service best practices.Strong general management, reporting, and data analysis skills.Effective problem-solving and conflict management abilities.Clear and professional communication (both oral and written).Basic computer skills (Avimark, Microsoft Office, email, and practice management software are a plus).Abilities:Proven ability to delegate responsibilities and achieve results with team members.Adaptability to handle multiple tasks and changing duties.Ability to champion change and drive innovation in the hospital.Strong decision-making skills and the ability to motivate and coach employees.Professional and courteous demeanor with staff and clients.Teamwork:Collaborate effectively in a team environment, contributing to a common goal.Maintain a positive, gossip-free atmosphere.Actively engage in problem-solving and contribute ideas to improve client/patient service and hospital efficiency.Be open to feedback and support your team members across departments.
