**Assistant Library Maintainer - Library for the Performing Arts** **Department:** Facilities **Employment Type:** Full Time **Location:** Library for the Performing Arts **Reporting To:** Michelle Perez **Compensation:** $49,007 / year **Description** **Job Summary** The New York Public Library (NYPL) has been an essential provider of free books, information, ideas, and education for all New Yorkers for more than 100 years. NYPL’s neighborhood libraries in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island—many of which date to Andrew Carnegie’s visionary philanthropy at the turn of the 20th century—are being transformed into true centers of educational innovation and service, and vital community hubs that provide far more than just free books and materials. NYPL is seeking an Assistant Library Maintainer to maintain and repair library building systems and equipment to provide an environment that is clean, safe and comfortable for our Library users and employees. **Key Responsibilities** **Responsibilities:** Under the direction of a Library Maintainer, the Assistant Maintainer: + Performs minor repairs to the lighting equipment, including the relamping and ballast replacement of all electrical fixtures + Performs elementary preventative maintenance work on mechanical equipment, air conditioning, plumbing, carpentry, and painting. + May be assigned to work in any trade as required + May be assigned to work in Manhattan, Staten Island, Bronx, and Long Island City locations. + Performs related duties as require **Skills Knowledge & Expertise** **Required Education and Certifications** + High School Diploma or Equivalent **Required Experience** + 0-2 years of work experience **Required Skills** + Knowledge and experience in maintenance and repairs of mechanical and electrical systems + Successfully demonstrated experience in all phases of building maintenance, including painting, plumbing and/or carpentry. + Good oral and written communication skills + Ability to set up work from scaffolds and ladders + Basic knowledge of computers + Valid driver’s license and clear driving record. + Must pass physical examination + Graduation from a vocational or trade school, with a certificate in one of the building trades (Preferred but not required). **Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:** + None **More** **Core Values** _All team members are expected and encouraged to embody the NYPL Core Values:_ + Be **Helpful** to patrons and colleagues + Be **Resourceful** in solving problems + Be **Curious** in all aspects of your work + Be **Welcoming** and **Inclusive** **Work Environment** + NYC libraries, mechanical rooms, roofs, and office buildings **Physical Duties** + Limited physical effort is required + Light lifting required + Lifting up to 40 lbs.
