Objectives:
• IP intelligence plays a key role in understanding competitive IP situation and trends, in order to identify potential IP opportunities for sustainable technology advantage for BASF Battery Materials business development, being reflected in the innovation strategy / roadmap.
• This position is accountable for IP intelligence development for the BASF Battery Materials unit, aiming to further strengthen BASF’s competitive IP position in the industry and support IP strategy.
• This position manages IP intelligence from various information sources in the industry, e.g. patent-portfolio analysis, scientific journals and other open source literature.
• This position requires close interactions with colleagues from BASF group Global IP services (GBI), R&D and Technical sales experts to collect & share information and maintain close connections with external sources.

Information relates to raw, unverified and unevaluated data gathered from numerous sources, while, intelligence refers to processed, evaluated and perspective-driven data that is gathered from trusted sources.

Main Tasks:
• IP Intelligence Management - Develop and maintain a structured information management system of competitive IP and technologies through collaboration with colleagues from BASF group Global IP services (GBI), R&D and Technical sales experts to ensure systematic information management starting from collecting information (“input”) to evaluate the information (“process”) and develop intelligence (“output”), focusing on competitive IP benchmarking.
• Search for, combine, analyze and draw conclusions on external IP information into tangible results, which are then utilized to make strategic IP, innovation, technology and business decisions for BASF Battery Materials.
• Support continuous improvement, working together with GBI for Improving information management processes, methods and tools for performing IP Intelligence that would enable to deliver high quality work in an efficient way.
• For the “input” phase, work together with IP management, GBI and Technical experts to define focus areas, specific aspects in the focus areas for acquiring key information to deliver target intelligence “output”.
• For the “process” phase, cross-check and analyze information from different sources, optionally going back and forth between the “process” & “input” phases.
• For the “output” phase, support IP and technical strategy / roadmap review / update through providing the output in a structured manner.


• Bachelor or Master degree in chemistry / chemical engineering or received any similar educations.
• Experience in reading and interpreting English and Chinese patents in the field of Lithium-ion Battery / Battery Materials industry.
• Logical & structural thinking to develop intelligence in a structured manner.
• Strong ability to listen, influence (even without authority) and strong collaborative leadership skills to sustain the IP intelligence management system together with internal stakeholders.
• Highly skilled at written and oral communication in both Chinese & English and can connect with a variety of external sources.
