The Hartford looks for ways to improve and help restore lives of our insureds by providing excellent customer service to our Claims Partners and insureds. The Assistant Managing Attorney (“AMA”) will join a dynamic team in support of the Pennsylvania Staff Legal office of The Hartford. This REMOTE position has as its focus the oversight of the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation practice for the office as well as management duties working with the Managing Attorney. This position supports a well-established, collegial group of four Attorneys plus a paralegal and support staff. The selected talent shall regularly collaborate with our claims partners to provide excellent business outcomes, while also fostering The Hartford’s reputation of excellence in the legal community. In addition to helping to provide leadership for the staff counsel office, the AMA shall build and maintain productive partnerships with our Attorneys, support staff and claims partners. They will provide guidance on case handling along with additional supportive expertise on complex cases as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute appropriate uniform office systems concerning the receipt and timely assignment of files; the timely and meaningful communications with clients, claims, opposing counsel and the court; the identification, maintenance and storage of open files and, the closing and storing of closed files.
Ensure the use of uniform legal and administrative forms.
Conduct suit analyses and frequent reviews of staff law office files.
Develop partnership between office and claim centers.
Provide high quality service and timely information to Claims.
Participate in roundtables and Claim file reviews.
Conduct periodic group and individual huddles with direct reports.
Compile and analyze data and statistics from multiple sources for preparation of monthly reports.
Prepare and administer the office budget.
Identify issues that raise broad client, claim or corporate implications.
Assumes a proactive role in requisite staff training regarding legal issues and goals.
Administers performance management process for professional and support staff thru on-going feedback, coaching, evaluation, development, etc.
Oversee file inventory and activity for Staff Attorneys.
Recruit, hire, develop and retain outstanding legal staff and support staff.
Promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
Promote an inclusive and team-oriented work environment among all offices and remote staff.
Provide high quality legal representation to clients.
Participate in and lead roundtables with insureds, Claims Partnership calls and claims file reviews.
Ensures adherence to all quality, customer service and litigation management standards; conducts local management file reviews.
Assist with ad hoc office projects, hearings or file support as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 7 years of workers’ compensation experience either within a firm or in-house environment (GL experience is helpful but not required).
Strong preference shall be given to candidates with previous management experience (i.e. direct leadership, project oversight, training, coaching and/or mentoring).
Member in good standing in Pennsylvania state bar and any other state or federal entities where the Attorney has been admitted.
Extensive experience with and strong working knowledge of Pennsylvania workers’ compensation litigation practice which includes experience handling workers’ compensation matters at multiple levels such as the judicial level, PA Appeal Board and Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court.

Proficiency with MS Office, MS Teams and Lexis Nexis software.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
