Assistant Materials Manager

Job Description:

Mueller’s manufacturing commitment ensures one of the world’s most precious resources, clean drinking water, reaches millions of people daily.  Come be a part of something that sustains and enriches the lives of every human being.  As Assistant Materials Manager, you will oversee Buying and Planning operations while driving continuous improvement and ensuring cross-functional coordination to delight our customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee facility Inventory, Material Handling, Planning, and Scheduling Functions in our effort to support our customers as a world-class facility.Ensure seamless communication and feedback with our sales team and other functional groups.Contribute and lead SIOP (Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning) MeetingsTeach and train functional team in competencies and technical/functional skillsRoot cause problem solving to drive process improvementManage daily operations to ensure the efficient operations of the Buying, Planning, and Scheduling Functions including development of SOP’sEnsure accurate and timely development of schedules for all shop floor processes.Develop and update metrics to communicate health and challenges of Buying, Planning, and Scheduling group.Provide recommendations to other functional groups to help facility drive towards excellence.Assist Materials Manager with other regular tasks as required to meet demands of the materials group.

Required Skills:

Demonstrated success in leading teams to meet challenging goals.Experience using an ERP system to efficiently plan and procure material.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Able to communicate at various levels within the organization.Demonstrated ability to successfully achieve goals through influence.Ability to consistently provide positive and negative feedback to external process partners and peers in written and verbal form.Comfort in expediting material and implementing solutions to short-term and long-term supply issues.Ability to identify employees’ strengths and limitations and give both spectrums of feedback (positive and constructive)Ability to influence peers to understand & achieve alignment and common goal(s)Efficient in 5S, Standard Work, Value Stream-MappingExperience with risk awareness and mitigationFinancial acumenDemonstrated past of developing and managing KPIs and metrics.Ability to drive continuous improvement and eliminate waste.Experience with material and information flowExperience with PFEP, choosing correct Replenishment plan.Demonstrated proficiency in 6 Sigma continuous improvement methodology.

Required Education/Experience:

BS/BA degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or technical field5+ years’ supervisory experience (preferred)Global acumen (how business is done globally - preferred)Documented turn-around of employee situations (marginal to meeting expectations)Experience with enterprise-sourcing purchasing systemsDemonstrated Advanced Excel and Microsoft Suite skills

Preferred:

JDE E1 or similar ERP experienceAPICS CPIM certification

Physical Requirements:

Ability to remain in stationary position or standing position for prolonged periods and alternate betweenAbility to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingersAbility to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment. Ability to constantly communicate with others to exchange information in person, via phone, or via use of computer.Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 25 pounds in weight in all directionsAbility to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder levelAbility to occasionally stoop, crouch, or kneel
