OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES


WJZ-TV in Baltimore is seeking a dynamic, creative, self-motivated, decision-making Assistant News Director for our day side news daypart! This is an exciting opportunity to manage news to where we meet our audiences on linear television and streaming. We’re looking for a leader who can inspire innovation and creativity, while also adhering to excellent news judgment. 

WJZ-TV is someone who has a passion for morning news and all of its strategy facets, planning, breaking news, people management, and empowering staff to be the best. Because YOU believe in local news as a change agent and a community-builder, you will bring the best out of your team daily through support, empathic listening and intelligent mentoring. You like waking up, coming to work, knowing each day is a new opportunity to tell and own stories that are going to be meaningful and impactful. 

 

You will oversee the day-to-day news editorial operations with a collaborative style, mentoring and inspiring a content leadership team in addition to a hard-working staff. “That’s how we’ve always done it” is not part of your vocabulary.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS 


-  5+ years leadership experience in a medium television market

-  College degree required

-  A flexible schedule is required


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS


-  Have a proven track record with people as a leader, mentor, collaborator and teammate.

-  Know that strong experience in all aspects of television production for this news operation is the price of admission.

-  Possess a talent for integrating new technology applications in this multi-media, multi-platform environment.

-  Understand how to motivate and lead the various personalities and levels of experience.

-  Understand what it means to show up for your team and take ownership of your space – even better if you thrive in this environment!

-  Love working in a newsroom and it shows in how you walk, talk and approach each day and each colleague.

-  Previous experience working in a non-linear newsroom and familiarity with I-news, and Chyron graphics systems is a plus.
