**FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT**
**The Department of History at Hunter College, CUNY invites applications for an** **Assistant or Associate Professor (full-time, tenure-track/tenured)** **position in Indigenous History of the Americas.** The department is interested in applications from scholars whose research and teaching deal with American Indian/Native American, First Nations, and Indigenous histories. We welcome applicants who specialize in North, Central, and/or South America, especially in the field of Vast Early Americas (before 1800). Applicants should support existing departmental strengths.
The anticipated start date is on or about September 1, 2026. Candidates must demonstrate excellence or strong promise of excellence in both research and teaching. The position includes the opportunity, subject to need, to teach in the History Department’s Master’s program.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
For Assistant or Associate Professor:
A PhD in history is required at the time of appointment. We seek applicants who have the ability to cooperate with faculty, students, and staff of all backgrounds for the good of the institution, and who are committed to encouraging and supporting our highly diverse student body.
**COMPENSATION**
Compensation is commensurate with experience within the range of the relevant title (Assistant Professor $52,267 - $67,072; Associate Professor $82,928 - $117,805).
**CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will increase by approximately 9.54% with an additional**
**increase of 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.**
