**FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT**
The City College of New York Libraries seeks an experienced, forward-thinking, and creative professional to lead the librarians and paraprofessional staff in its Technical Services unit. Technical Services encompasses acquisitions, receiving, cataloging, material processing, serials management, e-resource management, and metadata creation. This position is pivotal to the efficient operation of the City College of New York Libraries, offering an opportunity to rethink and realign workflows, and optimize department operations. Reporting to the Associate Dean and Chief Librarian, the Chief of Technical Services will oversee the operational management of staff engaged in technical services activities and provide strategic direction to the unit. The incumbent is responsible for the administration and coordination of work, including the establishment and implementation of technical services policies, standards, and procedures related to material processing, serials, and other technical services functions.
The responsibilities of the Chief of Technical Services include but are not limited to the following:
+ Provide vision and strategic direction for technical services operations across The City College of New York Libraries (CCNY Libraries)
+ Supervise the Cataloging & Metadata Services Librarian, the Collection Development & Acquisitions Assistant, and the Electronic Resources Librarian. Lead team in activities related to ordering, receiving, processing, acquisition, description, and management of library resources
+ Act as the chief technical resource for the catalog and bibliographic database, coordinating practices among units/departments within the Libraries
+ Coordinate the application of descriptive metadata schemas for digitized and born-digital content, ensuring metadata interoperability
+ Ensure high-quality standards in acquisitions, resource management, and descriptive frameworks across all formats. Identify and implement improvements to enhance service and efficiency within Technical Services
+ Perform related library faculty duties, including collection development, reference (inĀ-person and virtual), information literacy instruction, and liaising with faculty and academic departments. Serve on college, university, and/or departmental committees, and engage in professional development and scholarly activities. Serve as a member of the Libraries' leadership group, sharing management responsibility for the CCNY Libraries
+ Foster relationships with external partners, vendors, and consortia to enhance resource acquisition and management
+ Oversee the integration and optimization of library systems (e.g., ILS, discovery tools) to support resource management and user access
+ Manage and allocate the technical services budget, ensuring efficient use of resources
+ Provide professional development opportunities for staff, keeping them current on trends, standards, and technologies in technical services
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program
+ Second Master's degree or PhD
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in cataloging, acquisitions, resource management, or a related field in an academic library setting
+ Strong knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards including MARC and RDA, and experience with integrated library systems (ILS)
+ Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience, with demonstrated leadership in staff management
+ Experience in managing acquisitions, including vendor relations, budgeting, and resource negotiations
+ Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholders and departments
+ Experience managing budgets and procurement processes
+ Familiarity with state funding agencies and policies
+ Knowledge of linked data and metadata frameworks
+ Experience with electronic resources management and library discovery tools (e.g., Primo)
+ Familiarity with digital preservation practices
+ Knowledge of open access and scholarly communication
+ Experience using data and analytics to assess workflows and resource usage
+ Experience with Library System migrations or upgrades
**COMPENSATION**
**Salary Range** :
Assistant Professor: $90,375 - $99,532
Associate Professor: $100,329 - $110,641
