Position Description:
The McGill University Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Division of Pediatric Radiology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is inviting applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff Position as a Pediatric Radiologist with subspecialty or particular interest for pediatric abdominal imaging and/or musculoskeletal imaging at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical) and MUHC Division Director of Pediatric Radiology. The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) is a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. The MCH has an international reputation for excellence. As well as being a McGill University associated teaching hospital, the MCH provides state-of-the-art tertiary and quaternary imaging and care for neonates, children, and adolescents, including kidney transplantation and progressive neurosurgical and cardiovascular surgery. The MCH is a Level I Trauma Centre situated on the Glen campus of the MUHC in a state-of-the-art 2015 facility.
There is ample opportunity for research in advanced MRI techniques and AI. The MCH has 154 inpatients beds, 20 emergency department beds, and receives more than 80,000 annual visits, with an annual volume of more than 7,000 surgeries and approximately 177,000 clinics visits. A total of 80,000 imaging studies are performed each year at the MCH, with a full range of imaging modalities, including magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, digital fluoroscopy, and interventional radiology.
Job Duties:
The successful candidate will be appointed as MUHC Division Director of Pediatric Radiology. The administrative duties as Division Director are expected to require approximately 15% of the time and the roles and responsibilities of the Division Director will include the following:
In compliance with the LGSSSS, and under the authority of the Associate Director of Professional Services (aDPS) at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and the Chief of the Department of Medical Imaging, the Division Director of Pediatric Radiology will be responsible for overseeing, coordinating, directing, and advancing the administrative, clinical, and educational activities within the division;
As agreed and upon consultation with Division members, dedicated administrative support and protected time will be provided to the successful candidate;
Engage in annual and long-term planning of the division within the broader framework of the Department of Radiology;
Regarding performance evaluation and strategic improvements, the MUHC Division Director of Pediatric Radiology will be expected to regularly assess the division’s objectives, performance and recommend strategies for continuous improvement.
Other roles and responsibilities include:
Resource Allocation and Equipment Management:
In coordination with the Department Chief, oversee necessary pediatric equipment, resources, and spaces to provide patient care, including maintenance and updates, while working closely with the biomedical team.
Participation in the Pediatric Mission Executive Committee:
As part of the Pediatric Mission Executive Committee, the Division Director will be responsible for facilitating interdisciplinary cooperation, supporting ongoing education initiatives (such as residency and fellowship programs), and fostering research relevant to the Division.
Develop protocols and processes:
Establish protocols and processes to ensure timely access to high-quality, ultra-specialized pediatric imaging services; this includes managing on-call schedules and 24/7 coverage for medical staff.
Financial, Human, and Material Resources:
In collaboration with the Division’s Manager and Chief Technologist, the Director will:
⸰ Prepare funding requests for the Division;
⸰ Analyze budget reports and ensure adherence to budget plans;
⸰ Oversee equitable access to clinical support for Division members and patients;
⸰ Recruit, supervise, and foster the professional development of Division members per the MUHC’s management philosophy.
Communication and Reporting:
The Director is expected to maintain active and effective communication with the Chief of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology. Conduct at least four Division meetings annually to coordinate activities and discuss developments. Provide timely reports on Division activities, including an annual report for MUHC. Manage and communicate the Division’s on-call schedule effectively.
Quality of Care:
The Director will designate a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Lead within the Division to oversee quality assurance (QA) and morbidity or mortality rounds. The incumbent will implement and oversee programs that monitor and enhance the quality of care within the Division. They will also be expected to regularly review and adapt the Division’s services to align with patient care standards, conducting risk assessments, and reporting high-risk situations related to professional services.
Education and Outreach:
The Director will:
⸰ Support outreach and educational activities within the Pediatric mission, MUHC, and the RUIS;
⸰ Oversee the pediatric radiology rotation for medical residents from various programs to ensure high-quality training;
⸰ Work closely with the Directors of Diagnostic Radiology Residency Programs, Pediatric Radiology Fellowship, and Pediatric Neuroradiology Fellowship programs;
⸰ Coordinate continuing professional development opportunities for Division members and facilitate teaching and research activities within the Division.
Research Development:
The Director will assist the Associate Chair of Research in developing a robust pediatric radiology research program, promote research initiatives, and seek financial support for research efforts within the Division.
The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., teaching, research, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in other scholarly duties such as academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Candidates must:
Hold an MD degree and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
Have completed subspecialty training in Diagnostic Radiology with certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
Have a minimum of 1 year of additional subspecialty training/fellowship in Pediatric Radiology;
Have subspecialty training, or particular interest and experience in pediatric musculoskeletal imaging and/or pediatric abdominal imaging;
Have a demonstrable interest and commitment to teaching, clinical research, and publication;
Fulfill all professional training, experience and administrative requirements for this role, including certification as a pediatric radiologist or an equivalent qualification confirmed through credentialing;
Hold one of the seven designated medical staffing positions (PEMs) in pediatric imaging within the MUHC;
Remain free of any financial conflicts of interest that could influence their decision-making for the division;
Additional training and interest in fetal imaging would be considered an asset;
Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
