JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Assistant Senior High School Principal
START DATE: Between March 10, 2025 and July 1,2025
The position of Assistant Senior High School Principal is a vital leadership position in the Victor Central School District. The individual filling this position will, in conjunction with the High School Principal, provide leadership and direction for faculty, students, support staff, and parents in the total education process. The Assistant Senior High School Principal has the responsibility to not only help others grow, but to continually pursue his/her own professional growth. Such individual growth is a fundamental expectation for this position.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Senior High School Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:(Individuals who will be eligible for a certificate of Internship as of July 1, 2025, are eligible to apply for this position.)
+ Hold New York State School Administrator certification.
+ Have completed a minimum of five years of successful teaching and/or Administrative experience, preferably at the secondary level.
+ Hold a Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
+ Hold high and clear expectations for students, staff, and self.
+ Be able to work effectively with a variety of staff and community groups.
+ Possess a management style which fosters a team effort.
+ Knowledge of curriculum and the instructional supervision process.
+ Operate in a respectful, responsible manner.
SUPERVISES: Senior High School
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Curriculum and Instruction
In conjunction with and under the direction of the school principal:
+ Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school which supports the emotional, physical and intellectual well-being of Senior High School students.
+ Takes a leadership role in developing, monitoring and evaluating instructional programs by initiating and implementing programs to meet specific needs of the school in concert with the District Curriculum Council.
+ Participates in developing recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instructional programs.
+ Participates in supervising all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the school’s curriculum.
+ Administers student testing program within the school.
Staff and Student Supervision
+ Assists the school principal in implementing and observing all Board policies and regulations by staff and students.
+ Assists in the supervision of all professional, paraprofessional, administrative and non-professional personnel attached to the school.
+ Assists in training, assigning and evaluating of the school’s professional staff.
+ Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instruction.
+ Assists in the evaluation of all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
+ Assists, according to established procedures, in the counseling of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory.
+ Service as ex officio member of all committees and councils with his/her school.
+ Under the direction of the school principal, assumes responsibility for administration and supervision of special programs and staff within the building projects, remedial instruction, gifted/talented, special education, etc., in conjunction with district policies and procedures.
+ Assists in the administration and supervision of local/state/federal grant projects within the building in accordance with district policies and procedures.
+ Helps establish guides for proper student conduct maintaining high standards and enforcing discipline as necessary, according to due process to the rights of students.
+ Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on student health, performance and attendance.
+ Maintain Data Security as applicable.
+ Maintain confidentiality with staff, student, and family information.
Fiscal Management
+ In conjunction with the Intermediate School Principal, prepares and submits the school’s budgetary requests, and monitors the expenditures of funds, based on program needs.
+ Maintains and controls the various local funds generated by student activities.
Building/Department Management
Assists the Senior High School Principal with:
+ Budgeting school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business, scheduling classes within the established guidelines to meet student needs.
+ Supervising the master teaching schedule and any special assignments.
+ Conducting meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
+ Assuming responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plan.
+ Supervising the daily use of the school facilities for academic and non-academic purposes.
+ Planning and supervising fire drills and filing required reports of same.
+ Providing for adequate inventories of property under his/her jurisdiction and for the security and accountability of that property.
+ Delegating authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
+ Overseeing field trip arrangements with transportation supervisor.
+ Regular use of school email.
Public Relations
+ Acts as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.
+ Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
+ Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers.
+ Responds to written and oral request for information.
+ Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities, functions.
Professional Growth
+ Assumes responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, through attendance at regional, state and national meetings, through enrollment in advanced courses, through reading professional journals and other publications, and by discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
+ Accepts advice, direction and guidance from the principal and seeks to cooperatively implement suggestions.
District Level Administrative Duties
+ Works collaboratively with various members of the central administrative staff on school problems of more than in-school import, such as transportation and special services.
+ Participates in administrative meetings, Board meetings, negotiation meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
+ Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed to by the superintendent or his/her designee, or the principal.
+ Keeps the school principal informed of the school’s regular activities and concerns, as well as events and activities of an unusual nature.
+ Assumes other such duties as may be deemed necessary by the Superintendent of his/her designee, or the Senior High School Principal.
+ Attends meetings as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The position of Assistant Senior High School Principal is a twelve-month administrative position. The terms established in accordance with the contract between the Superintendent of Schools and the Victor Administrators and Supervisors Association (can be found on the Victor School District website under the Human Resources Deparment tab).
EVALUATION:
Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools.
SALARY: Minimum starting salary $78,000 (negotiable based on experience) and competitive benefits package as per the Victor Administrators and Supervisors Association agreement. The VASA contract can be found on the Victor Central School District website under the Human Resources tab.
