Position Number: 007571 Department: College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences (Col) Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time Months Per Year: 9 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is recruiting for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in August 2025. We seek a biological anthropologist conducting research at the intersection of human biology and health. The ideal candidate will bring a broad foundation in anthropology to the study of connections between behavior, health, biology, and environment. Topics might include—but are not limited to—nutrition, reproduction, growth and development, chronic or infectious diseases, microbiomes, language development, or other areas. We welcome candidates who work closely with community groups and/or have an applied focus. Preference will be given to candidates who have or can develop research projects based in Charlotte, North Carolina, or the Southeastern United States. Job responsibilities include teaching a four-field introductory anthropology course, an introduction to biological anthropology course with a laboratory component that satisfies the university’s general education requirements for laboratory science, and undergraduate and graduate electives. The teaching load is two courses per semester. We are particularly interested in candidates who can support our innovative 3-year dual degree (MA/ MPH ) with Public Health Sciences. Minimum Experience / Education: UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Preferred Education Skills and Experience: We welcome applicants whose primary focus is on human macroevolution, with research interests in the study of human origins by comparison with extant nonhuman primates or extinct species. We seek a dynamic and broadly trained scholar committed to high quality research and teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Geographical area of research is open, with preference given to scholars who will complement the department’s current strengths. The successful applicant should demonstrate the potential to contribute to an anticipated MA/ MPH dual degree program in Anthropology and Public Health. The Department of Anthropology at UNC Charlotte emphasizes four-field training for its students, and offers B.A. and M.A. degrees in Anthropology with optional concentrations in Applied Anthropology at both levels.
