Assistant Professor - Anthropology **FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT** Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty five colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. The Social and Behavioral Sciences Department of the School of Liberal Arts at Medgar Evers College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Anthropology at the level of Assistant Professor. The appointment will begin immediately subject to administrative and budgetary approval. The department seeks scholars with exceptional records in the research and teaching of anthropological and archeological science who take a big picture approach to studies of human environment interactions, with an emphasis on Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology. We seek individuals who have a theoretical outlook rooted in evolutionary theory as applied to the archeology of sociopolitical complexity. we are especially interested in candidates with ongoing field and lab based projects. possible specializations include but are not restricted to geoarchaeology, ceramics, computer and mathematical modeling, EJ Screen, GIS, and spatial analysis. The ideal candidate will also perform teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise and share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. **QUALIFICATIONS** Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related discipline at the time of appointment. They will demonstrate an ongoing commitment lo academic and pedagogical inclusive excellence in support of the department's programs. At the undergraduate level, they will he expected to touch introductory courses us well us more advanced courses in their areas of expertise. Experience with grant writing and management, as well as student engagement with study abroad opportunities of interest. is a plus. Experience with course und program development in the discipline is equally important. The Social & Behavioral Sciences Department provides a strong. supportive, and collaborative research culture, building the research capacity if faculty. **COMPENSATION** $75,465 - $82,928 - Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
