Assistant Professor - Avian Science and Health

The School of Animal Sciences at Virginia Tech is seeking an Assistant Professor of Avian Science and Health. The position is a 9-month academic-year tenure-track position with primary appointment in research (70%) and secondary appointment in teaching (30%). The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program with a research focus within the general area of avian health. The school is searching for the best candidate within areas of interest, including immunology, microbiology, virology, pathobiology, and developmental biology. Candidates using cutting edge technologies to test mechanistic solutions addressing problems in avian health are encouraged to apply (including but not limited to gene editing and multi-omics). Candidates will have the opportunity to participate in research, curriculum, and/or outreach initiatives within the Global Systems Science Destination Area, which is focused on the transdisciplinary study of the dynamic interplay among natural and social systems (http://provost.vt.edu/destination-areas.html). The successful candidate will be expected to teach in their area of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and this candidate should also be able to explain how they can contribute to courses with a poultry emphasis. The candidate should demonstrate their commitment to recruit and maintain a student and trainee-driven research program that engages at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels. Successful candidates will have access to research laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment, and newly renovated animal facilities. The school is seeking a candidate that has a collaborative mindset that will be able to articulate how they will capitalize on working with the many highly motivated and productive faculty members from Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, the Fralin Institute, and other programs at Virginia Tech that are addressing problems facing animal and human health.

The position is a full-time, 9-month academic year appointment. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Virginia Tech offers a comprehensive benefits package.
