JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Center for Advancing Health Equity for Rural and Underserved Communities, in Hershey, PA, is seeking an Assistant Professor. The Center for Advancing Health Equity in Rural and Underserved Communities (CAHE-RUC) is a unique academic and community partnership committed to the comprehensive evaluation and implementation of evidence-based, community-level strategies to improve health outcomes for rural and underserved communities. With locations in Chicago and Hershey CAHE-RUC tackles a variety of complex public health and health system issues that require multi-disciplinary and multi-methodological approaches to achieve outcomes that benefit individuals and whole communities. The Pennsylvania State College of Medicine (and its academic partners, Penn State Health and Milton S. Penn State College of Medicine is part of an academic medical group that also includes Penn State Health, a multi-hospital health system serving patients and communities across 29 counties in central Pennsylvania. Essential Function: CAHE-RUC is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Professor to advance our research portfolio focusing on health disparities among rural and underserved populations. The Assistant Professor will conduct independent multi-disciplinary research as a principal investigator, including designing research projects, developing hypotheses, planning and designing research methodologies, acquiring external funding through grant proposals, analyzing data, publishing findings in academic journals, and presenting research at conferences. The Assistant Professor will mentor postdoctoral scholars, graduate and undergraduate students, and train our research project managers and data analysts. The Assistant Professor will need to work collaboratively with diverse teams to design, develop, and implement scientific research and develop research to address fundamental questions in the field of public health and health disparities. This role requires expertise in developing and implementing research in clinical and community-based settings with diverse populations. Minimum Education and Experience: The Assistant Professor must possess a Ph.D. in physiology or its equivalent in an academic field related to human/genetic research; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and/or researcher; and must have shown definite evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter. Prior experience in basic science, research, publication and federal grant writing is preferred. This is a limited-term non-tenure line position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.
