Assistant Professor Cognitive/Computational Neuroscience

Virginia Tech seeks to recruit an innovative cognitive and/or computational neuroscientist to its Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC (FBRI - https://fbri.vtc.vt.edu/) for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level.

The successful candidate must have the Ph.D. degree in a discipline related to cognitive or computational neuroscience and have completed a successful postdoctoral fellowship. Candidates with strong records of extramural support including fellowships and grants will be most competitive for this position. Applications from investigators using innovative contemporary approaches to study the neuroscientific basis of cognition in humans at any stage in the lifespan are welcomed. The faculty member will join 44 other faculty led teams at the FBRI and become a member of the research institute’s highly successful Center for Human Neuroscience Research (CHNR). The position will be located at the FBRI at VTC on Virginia Tech’s health sciences campus in Roanoke, Virginia. In addition to their position at the FBRI, the faculty member will also have a tenure-track appointment in a VT department that is best suited to their skills and interests, most likely the Department of Psychology (https://psyc.vt.edu/).

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing community of scholars focused on research questions at the intersection of cognition, computation, and neuroscience at Virginia Tech. This reflects a major investment in recent faculty hires and research infrastructure at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, and in the Department of Psychology, Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise, School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences, and School of Neuroscience.

Research infrastructure includes the original 100,000 square foot research institute that opened in 2010 as well as a new 139,000 square foot research building (http://fralinbiomed.info/buildingtour). The CHNR is immediately adjacent to the FBRI’s Addiction Recovery Research Center, Center for Health Behaviors Research and the Center for Neurobiology Research, offering additional rich opportunities for collaborations. Facilities at the research institute include multiple research MRIs for human and animal research, including high field MR guided PET and MR guided focused ultrasound, optically pumped magnetometers (OPM-MEG), multiple cellular/molecular imaging facilities including transcriptomics and genomics analysis as well as behavioral testing suites for animals and humans, in addition to two human whole room calorimeters, metabolic kitchen and dining areas for the study of human eating behaviors.

Applications will be reviewed continuously until the position is filled. It is expected that initial interviews will begin in October, 2024. To apply, please submit your application, including curriculum vitae, detailed statement of research accomplishments and plans, and teaching/mentoring philosophy at www.jobs.vt.edu, posting #530874. To complete the application, the applicant should also have at least three references post their letters of support to the same site.
