Faculty Appointment Type Tenure Track Term (if applicable) 9 month Begin Date of Appointment 08/11/2025 Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University. Description of Primary Duties We seek a candidate who can demonstrate a commitment to inclusive teaching practices and facilitate students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and expertise in counseling practice. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about the use of student-focused pedagogy in the classroom to engage students in the learning process and will join a unit that provides students with access to high-impact practices aimed at increasing student retention, persistence, and success. Responsibilities include teaching, supervising, and advising graduate students in clinical mental health and school counseling, active engagement in scholarly research, and service to the program, school, college, university, profession, and community. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Additional Qualifications Have an earned doctorate in counselor education and supervision from a CACREP-accredited program License or certificate (or eligibility for license or certificate) as a licensed professional counselor or school counselor in MO. Potential for innovative, learner-centered pedagogy to teaching counseling courses. Demonstrated experience in counseling in school and/or mental health settings. Demonstrated commitment to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage and work with diverse populations. Evidence of scholarship through projects, presentations, publications, and/or grants.
