Assistant Professor in Comparative East Asian Culture and Critical Media Studies
Location: Binghamton, NY Category: Faculty Posted On: Wed Sep 18 2024 Job Description: The Department of Asian and Asian American Studies in the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at Binghamton University (SUNY) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Comparative East Asian Culture/Critical Media Studies. We welcome applications from candidates specializing in comparative and critical approaches to the study of East Asian popular culture and media, with a focus on Japan. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research considers the transnational circulation of media forms that emerge from nation-based and language-specific cultures and societies - e.g. anime, manga, gaming, and music. Especially welcome is work with interdisciplinary approaches to race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, religion, indigeneity, migration, and diaspora studies. A digital approach to humanities, either methodologically or as research involving digital media, is encouraged. Candidates should possess research proficiency in Japanese. The selected candidate should actively contribute to the University's mission of advancing a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion through research, teaching, mentoring, and service, as well as through engagement with faculty, students, and staff.
