The Department of Art and Art History within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Albany, SUNY seeks an exceptional artist for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Art with a focus on Digital Art and Animation. The anticipated start date is August 25, 2025.
The successful candidate will teach Digital Art and Animation on the undergraduate level and bring aesthetic and scholarly diversity to the curriculum of the Photography and Related Media area in the Studio Art Major. On the graduate level, the position requires engagement with MFA and MA students in Painting and Drawing, Printmaking, Photography, Video and Digital Media, and Sculpture.
Additionally, the successful candidate will play a key role in teaching and guiding students in the Art concentration of the newly-established Game Design and Development Major: a joint venture between the departments of Art & Art History, Music & Theatre, and Information Sciences and Technology. Preferred qualifications include: candidates with expertise with animation and gaming hardware and software; previous experience working in interdisciplinary teams; grant funding; and/or experience with curriculum development in Animation and Game Design.
The Department seeks a collaborative colleague who will participate in program organization, student advising, and service on committees that support the educational mission and initiatives of the Department, College, and University. Special consideration will be accorded to a candidate who might add ethnic or cultural diversity to the current faculty.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
+ A Master of Fine Arts or equivalent terminal degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 8/15/2025. Candidates who will not hold the degree by this date will not be considered.
+ Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
+ Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging, relative to their role.
+ Two years of college level teaching beyond the graduate school.
+ Active program of creative research with a minimum of 10 examples of creative work.
+ Significant regional, national, or international exhibition and/or screening history.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Demonstrated accomplishment in an area of studio practice beyond Animation (i.e. Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Photography, Performance, Video, Printmaking, etc.)
+ Experience with curriculum development in Animation and/or Game Design and Development.
+ Obtained grants, fellowships, residencies, or awards locally, regionally, or nationally creative work.
+ Expertise in digital animation hardware and software.
+ Expertise working in collaborative or interdisciplinary teams.
+ More than 2 years of college level teaching beyond graduate school.

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Assistant Professor; Salary commensurate with experience.
