Assistant Professor in Sociocultural Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology at the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, University of Southern California in Los Angeles, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Anthropology in the area of sociocultural anthropology. Candidates should have a PhD in Anthropology and should demonstrate evidence of a theoretically innovative, ethnographically grounded, and methodologically creative research practice.

We are looking for a colleague with degree in hand, including those who might join us at the advanced assistant professor level, with areas of focus that complement the Department’s existing expertise. While theoretical, ethnographic, and geographic specialization are open, we particularly welcome applicants whose work addresses political, legal, and economic questions writ large. We would also welcome applications from scholars whose work includes the Middle East, Africa, East and South Asia, and their diasporas.

As a growing department, we look for a colleague with a strong and innovative research program and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring of undergraduates, graduate students, and post-docs. We are especially keen to recruit a candidate who seeks to play an active role in shaping our doctoral program, which is geared toward the preparation of creative, rigorous, engaged, and broad-thinking scholars for professional futures in and beyond the academy. The annual base salary range for this position is $109,250 - $112,575.
