Assistant Professor - Linguistics **FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT** The Linguistics Program at the College of Staten Island of The City University of New York (CUNY) invites applicants for an anticipated tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the English Department, beginning August 2025. The College of Staten Island (CSI) is one of 11 senior (i.e., four-year) colleges of The City University of New York, and the only public college on Staten Island. CSI offers over 80 undergraduate programs, 24 graduate programs and, through the CUNY Graduate Center, participates in 7 doctoral programs. The College enrolls approximately 14,000 students and employs over 2,000 faculty and staff. Located on a 204-acre park-like campus that is minutes away from the cultural treasures of Manhattan, the CSI campus is the largest collegiate site in NYC. **QUALIFICATIONS** Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Preferred Qualification include: • A PhD in Linguistics with a specialization in one of the following three sub-areas of linguistics: (a) syntax and syntactic variation in Romance; (b) phonetics and/or speech science; or (c) computational linguistics, with a focus on computational models relevant to theoretical approaches to human language. • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in one of these three areas and also undergraduate courses in general linguistics, including but not limited to: Introduction to Language, Introduction to Linguistics, Linguistic Diversity, Language Variation. • Demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduate students • A record of peer-reviewed scholarship in the area of specialization **COMPENSATION** $75,465 - $90,375 CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
