Primary Purpose
The Machining Instructor develops and delivers instruction to students on the topic of CNC machining, directs hands-on labs and evaluates student performance in the classroom. In addition, this position develops curriculum, assesses student learning, and provides student advising.
CTE Program Director Information:
Every CTE program has a Program Director. As faculty within the Manufacturing Technology program, you may be asked to perform the job duties of the Program Director for the program. In the event that this designation is given, you will be provided with the information regarding this position prior to any appointments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Provide machining instruction with a focus on CNC set-up, operation and programming, using approved course outcome guides. Teaching assignments may be during the day (including early morning), evening, or weekend.
+ Provide student advising and assistance in areas of course selection, career planning, job placement and employment follow-up.
+ Hold at least five scheduled office hours per week for student help sessions and program assistance.
+ Utilize College tools and resources, including the Learning Management System and Disability Services software, to support teaching activities, including tracking attendance and academic progress (grades).
+ Participate in department meetings, curriculum revision, course assessment, program assessment, and program review.
+ Engage in regular professional growth activities, remain current in the field, and maintain current credentials or licensures as required by the program.
+ Participate in service to the college. This may include participating in College committees, taskforces, peer teams, or other activities.
+ Provide meaningful, professional service to the community, businesses, public agencies, and other organizations.
+ Perform other essential duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
+ Oversee the safety and supervision of students in all Manufacturing Technology labs.

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.
+ Thorough knowledge in the field of manufacturing and a demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge. Skills necessary to instruct in Manufacturing Technology include topics such as: CNC machining, manual machining, assembly, tooling, Computer Aided Design ( CAD ), and use of precision measurement and inspection tools.
+ Ability to adapt and use a variety of teaching and assessment techniques.
+ Ability to observe, direct, and oversee students, ensuring safety in the classroom and/or laboratory.
+ Ability to support expansion of the program to incorporate future trends in manufacturing and provide skill levels necessary to respond to this evolving, changing industry and workforce in Central Oregon.
+ Ability to work comfortably in a team-teaching environment using the full range of teaching modes.
+ Ability to adapt and use a variety of teaching and assessment techniques including the use of technology to enhance student success.
+ Ability to observe, direct, and oversee students ensuring safety in the classroom or laboratory.
+ Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office suite and other technology used in the instruction setting.
+ Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse colleagues, staff, and community members.

+ Willingness to travel and or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
+ Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students and the willingness to work as a member of a team with faculty.
Ergonomic Requirements
Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. Ability to operate program equipment including, but not limited to CNC and manual lathes and mills, cutters, forklifts, and other machines. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
+ AAS degree or credential in manufacturing or relevant field with a minimum of 24 quarter hours (16 semester hours) of credit in manufacturing.
Experience:
+ One year of relevant experience working in the field.
+ Demonstrated successful teaching, or evidence for the potential for excellence in teaching.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
+ Teaching experience in a community college, or other higher education, environment.
+ Work experience in an industrial setting.
