Assistant Professor (N-T Track Research), Neurology - Faculty **Galveston, Texas, United States** **New** Faculty UTMB Health Requisition # 2500493 **JOB DESCRIPTION:** The Moody Brain Health Institute (MBHI) at UTMB is seeking an outstanding candidate for a tenure/non-tenure-track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position, appointed in the Department of Neurology specializing in Data Science. This position will lead and contribute to the research, service, and operational activities of the core within the Moody Brain Health Institute. The role will focus on statistical and bioinformatic analysis, development of grant proposals, scholarly publications, and the application of advanced predictive models to patient data. The role will also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain and develop bioinformatic tools, pipelines, and AI-driven models, while actively supporting the technology and data needs of the core. **ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:** + Lead and execute the core’s research initiatives, advancing key projects and objectives. + Collaborate with scientists within the MBHI, actively contributing to the core’s service activities and fostering interdisciplinary partnerships. + Provide statistical and bioinformatic analyses to support research endeavors of MBHI members. + Actively pursue and obtain external funding from federal agencies (e.g. NIH, NSF), industry partnerships, and other funding organizations, through crafted proposal submissions to support independent and collaborative research initiatives + Author and publish scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the scientific community. + Present research findings and core activities at both internal and external conferences, symposia, and workshops. + Design and implement predictive models based on patient data to support research and clinical applications. + Develop comprehensive data extraction strategies for Electronic Health Record (EHR) data, ensuring efficient and accurate analysis. + Maintain and enhance bioinformatic tools and data pipelines to support ongoing and future research initiatives within the MBHI. + Collaborate with external vendors and service providers to build and refine bioinformatic pipelines. + Assist in identifying and defining the technological infrastructure and tools needed to advance the core’s research. + Partner with the core director to plan resources and training for the development of AI tools and technologies. + Lead the development of virtual patient models to advance personalized medicine and data-driven research. **KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES** + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism. + Experience with high-throughput data analysis. + Experience in statistical analysis and machine learning. + Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convey complex bioinformatics concepts to non-experts. + Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem resolution. + Excellent decision-making skills. **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:** + PhD in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, or a related biomedical field. + Proven experience in bioinformatic analysis and/or statistical modeling. + Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and/or successful grant proposals. + Familiarity with EHR data extraction, and analysis. + Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. **PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:** + Experience in working with AI and machine learning models, particularly in the biomedical context. + Experience interacting with external vendors for pipeline development. + Expertise in developing AI tools and virtual patient models. + Prior involvement in leading or managing research projects. **SALARY:** Commensurate with experience. **EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:** UTMB Health strives to provide equal opportunity employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, genetic information, disability, veteran status, or any other basis protected by institutional policy or by federal, state or local laws unless such distinction is required by law.
