Job Summary The School of Social Science and Global Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in social/cultural anthropology to begin in August 2025. The position is open to all areas of expertise. We are particularly interested in scholars who can contribute to inter-disciplinary dialogues and degree options (e.g. ethnohistory or Native American Studies) and the methodological training of students (for example, visual or UX/design anthropology). In addition to outlining a research agenda and teaching interests in their cover letter, we encourage applicants to address the following: potential contributions to inter-disciplinary study, community-engaged scholarship, involving students in research, or ability to train students in research and data analysis. The anthropology program is housed in the School for Social Science and Global Studies and the successful candidate will work with both BA and MA students in anthropology. The successful applicant will have a 3/3 teaching load, maintain an active research agenda, and provide service to the department, university, discipline and/or community. Teaching responsibilities may include the following classes: four-field introduction to anthropology, introduction to cultural/linguistic anthropology, methods classes, theory, and electives in the applicant’s areas of expertise. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: + Teach three courses per semester for fall and spring terms + Hold regular office hours + Attend faculty meetings as determined by Director of School of Social Science and Global Studies + Provide service to assist the functioning the School, College, and University + Conduct research appropriate to the mission of the School, College and University + Performs other duties as assigned.
