The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for two 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Applied Mathematics with a starting date of August 1, 2025. The first position is in numerical analysis and the second position is at the intersection of computational mathematics and data science. In at least one position, preference will be given to those candidates with collaborative interests in biological, ecological, or environmental sciences, particularly those that complement and enhance the current strengths of our Mathematical Biology group (https://math.usu.edu/research/). The Mathematical Biology group specializes in data-driven, computational, multi-disciplinary research using mathematical tools to investigate current questions in living systems. The group maintains active collaborations in biology, ecology, engineering, and natural resources; students have numerous opportunities to apply mathematics in the context of important biological, environmental, and ecological challenges.

The computational mathematics and data science hire will be expected to work closely with the proposed Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) Center at USU. Although preference will be given to candidates with expertise in the mathematics of machine learning and data science applied to numerical solutions of mathematical problems, we will also welcome applications from individuals with expertise in solutions of stochastic differential equations, uncertainty quantification, inverse techniques and identifiability, and network science.
