Job Summary (Purpose and Function): The MRI Physicist will provide comprehensive clinical and technical expertise to support the operations and advancement of MRI technology within the Department of Radiology. This role encompasses quality assurance, protocol optimization, staff training, and research collaboration to ensure optimal imaging quality, patient safety, and the implementation of innovative imaging methods. The MRI Physicist will also engage in educational activities and contribute to research initiatives, fostering an environment of academic and clinical excellence. Core Responsibilitie s : Clinical Operations and Quality Assurance + Oversee and ensure the performance of all MR scanners across the UHealth System satellite facilities, including University of Miami Hospital and Clinics (UHT) and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. + Conduct regular reviews of clinical imaging protocols with technologists to ensure optimal image quality and adherence to departmental and clinical standards. + Perform comprehensive quality assurance (QA) assessments of MRI systems, including weekly American College of Radiology (ACR) QA image reviews and annual full-system QA for ACR accreditation. + Coordinate with MRI service engineers to resolve hardware and software issues promptly. + Supervise the acquisition and analysis of phantom images for QA testing, ensuring all clinical coils meet required performance standards. Protocol Development and Optimization + Collaborate with faculty, including Dr. Pattany , to implement state-of-the-art imaging methods and optimize clinical MRI techniques. + Assist technologists with processing images and resolving daily image quality concerns. + Analyze and refine advanced clinical imaging methods to optimize protocols regularly. + Coordinate with manufacturers to acquire and integrate new software and clinically relevant protocols into the MRI systems. Education and Training + Participate in the training and development of technologists, residents, and fellows through hands-on instruction and didactic teaching. + Engage in academic teaching activities, including graduate program lectures and post-graduate mentoring. + Provide safety and quality-related training to ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. Research and Innovation + Collaborate with faculty and researchers on extramurally funded grants to develop and implement innovative MRI technologies. + Assist in designing and conducting research studies involving advanced imaging techniques. + Participate in academic activities, including publishing research findings and presenting at conferences. Radiology Department Functions and Expectations: + Function as a liaison between technologists, radiologists, and engineering teams to ensure seamless clinical operations and protocol adherence. + Monitor and enhance the quality of clinical imaging studies, addressing and resolving image quality issues in collaboration with technologists. + Lead efforts to implement safety protocols and ensure compliance with MRI safety standards. + Drive initiatives to maintain the department's innovative capabilities, aligning with institutional goals and strategic priorities. + Contribute to the development of a robust academic and clinical MRI program, supporting the department’s mission to provide exceptional patient care and foster innovation. Minimum Qualifications (Essential Requirements): + PhD Degree in medical physics, engineering, or related field with minimum 2 years clinical experience and ABR (or equivalent) certified or eligible.
