Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Tenure Track
Alfred University's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position in Computer Science at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2025. The Division of Mathematics and Computer Science offers a minor, double major, and a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science. Due to rapid growth in the program, we are seeking candidates for a new faculty position.  Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to quality, excellence in undergraduate teaching, maintaining an active research program, and engaging with the life of the College and University.   Salary: $65,000-70,000 Responsibilities include teaching three four-credit undergraduate computer science courses per semester ranging from introductory and intermediate courses to upper-level electives and topics courses. Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Computer Science or Software Engineering by the time of the appointment. Areas of research complementary to our faculty are preferred. Scholarship is broadly defined. Therefore, faculty have opportunities to collaborate across disciplines and colleges as a part of their research programs. Math and Computer Science faculty currently collaborate with faculty in Liberal Arts, Engineering, Art and Design, and Performing Arts. There is annual support for travel to conferences, and the university hosts research forums, seminars, and informal intellectual gatherings. The university’s Teaching and Learning Center regularly organizes workshops and other resources for professional development. The computer science building features a third space called CASTLE (Computer and Software Technology Learning Experience) Lab where students collaborate and interact in an informal setting. Students meet weekly in the CASTLE Lab to discuss and present new topics of interest and exploration. Additionally, yearly coding competitions take place in CASTLE Lab and are supported by the Alfred AXIOM Club.   Application materials should include a cover letter that includes a rationale for the desire to teach in a rural liberal arts setting, a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching interests and experience, a research statement, and three confidential letters of reference.
