Assistant Professor of Early Childhood & Elementary Curriculum & Instruction
Position Summary: The School of Education at the State University of New York ( SUNY ) at Cortland is pleased to announce a search for a tenure-track faculty position in Early Childhood and Elementary Education in the Department of Childhood and Early Childhood Education to begin in August 2025. It is our goal to hire an exceptional scholars with a record of commitment to the academic success of historically marginalized groups of students and engagement in scholarly activity and service at the intersection of early childhood and elementary education, anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. The Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department offers degree programs in Early Childhood and Childhood Education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We are committed to providing future educators with unique learning opportunities that merge coursework from our programs with early practice teaching experiences in our Professional Development School ( PDS ) consortium. Our programs prepare teachers to create child-centered, inquiry-based and developmentally appropriate learning environments and to advocate for children’s equitable educational opportunities from birth through grade six. We are committed to preparing teachers to respond to the needs of all children and families in an increasingly diverse and global society. Early Childhood and Childhood Education faculty represent a rich array of interests with core values including effective leadership, policy formulation, inquiry, equity, eco-justice and collaboration. Watch to learn more faculty positions at SUNY Cortland:https://vimeo.com/1038936994 Major Responsibilities: + Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within at least one of the following areas of specialization: early childhood education for infants, toddlers and/or preschoolers, early childhood intervention and/or elementary curriculum and instruction + Demonstrate knowledge of issues of diversity, equity and inclusion + Advise and work with students to support their success + Observe practicum and student teachers + Work in professional development schools and build partnerships with child care centers and schools + Maintain a productive research agenda + Participate in the affairs of the department, School of Education and University, including but not limited to committee work and curriculum development + Participate in ongoing data collection and analysis to productively participate in program review and accreditation. Required Qualifications: + An earned doctorate in curriculum and instruction, early childhood education, early childhood special education or a closely related field, or ABD with designated completion date + Knowledge of elementary and/or early childhood curriculum and learning standards + Knowledge of best practices for supporting the learning of infants, toddlers, preschool and/or elementary age children; + Evidence of a scholarly agenda including research based presentations and/or publications + Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: + Minimum of three years’ successful experience teaching in early childhood and/or elementary school settings + Experience teaching in child care environments and/or P-12 schools + Experience in teaching culturally diverse populations including English language learners and children with disabilities + College teaching experience + Demonstrated ability to utilize technology and integrate it into instruction + Experience working in professional development schools and/or in partnership with P-6 schools and/or child care environments
