Job Summary
The School of Leadership, located in the College of Business and Economic Development at The University of Southern Mississippi, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-stream, assistant professor appointment in Human Capital Development to begin August 2025. The School of Leadership’s programs in this field include an M.S. and Ph.D.

The Human Capital Development program is delivered from the Gulf Park campus located in Long Beach, MS.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
+ Research: Sustain a robust research agenda to include the creation and dissemination of new knowledge, pursue external research support, and supervise graduate-level research;
+ Teaching: Teach graduate-level coursework at the master’s and doctoral levels, hold regular office hours, and engage in assessment and evaluation of programs;
+ Service: Actively participate in School, College, and University level committees; and
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate in Human Capital Development or closely related field, such as such as human resource development, workforce development, leadership, or organizational development. Current ABDs will be considered as long as the Ph.D. is in hand before the position begins. A minimum of 18 hours of graduate course work in Human Capital Development or related field; Evidence of successful college teaching experience; Evidence of successful research or scholarly activity; Ability to work effectively with administration, faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
+ Ability to supervise graduate research.
+ Ability to teach graduate classes in the Human Capital Development curriculum.
+ Ability to conduct a productive research agenda.
+ Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and populations.
+ Ability to build and maintain external stakeholder and campus relationships.
+ Ability to work effectively with administration, faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds.
+ Ability to navigate and use learning management systems for teaching, such as Canvas.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with instructing hybrid, online, 8-week format courses; Professional licensure, certifications, or awards in the area of teaching or research.
