Job Summary:
Administer Music Therapy program; Teach Music Therapy courses, plus possible courses in a secondary area such as Music Theory or Music Education, depending on qualifications and experience.
Work Performed:
The position primarily includes teaching Music Therapy at the undergraduate level, administration of the clinical experience component for students, and other related courses. Additional responsibilities will depend on the candidate's interests and qualifications, including but not limited to, vocal or instrumental performance, conducting, and music theory. Maintain active program of research and publication. Serve as requested on school, college, and university committees and in leadership positions in community and professional organizations.
Necessary Qualifications:
The qualified candidate will have a Doctorate (PhD, EdD or DMA) in music therapy or related field; hold the MT-BC (Music Therapist-Board Certified) credential; holds a master’s degree in music therapy or related area, with a minimum of Tran scripted graduate credits equivalent to 12 semester hours or the equivalent of graduate credits in music therapy beyond the undergraduate equivalency requirements; and has at least three years of full-time clinical experience in music therapy or its equivalent in part-time work. The candidate must meet the minimum qualification standards to serve as an undergraduate faculty member as outlined by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) found in Section 6.0 of the AMTA document Standards for Education and Clinical Training.
The ability to creatively engage students in the classroom and to teach effectively online and in hybrid classes will be expected. The candidate will demonstrate knowledge of music therapy research and provide evidence of successful publication of research and scholarship. Active participation in professional organizations will also be expected. The candidate will also have the ability to teach and clinically supervise undergraduate students and the ability to organize and administer an undergraduate music therapy program.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least two years of previous college-level teaching is preferred.
