Committed to advancing excellence and equity in education, the Graduate School of Education (GSE) at Rutgers University–New Brunswick seeks outstanding scholars to join the school and to help advance our three thematic strategic plan priority areas of diversity, equity, and social justice, STEM in education, and effective teaching and learning. Accordingly, we seek an outstanding scholar to join the school as part of our Award-Winning Urban Social Justice Teacher Education program. Specifically, we seek a tenure-track faculty colleague whose research focuses on understanding the experiences of underrepresented or underserved students in elementary and secondary schools and promoting anti-racist teaching in elementary and secondary schools.
Major Responsibilities: The scholar filling this position will conduct a research and publication agenda that advances Rutgers Graduate School of Education’s pursuit of advancing excellence and equity in education; demonstrate scholarly productivity by publishing in peer-reviewed journals, securing external research support, and presenting at national and international academic conferences; contribute to the growth of both teacher education and doctoral programs; participate in program development and innovation; develop and teach courses in teacher education. We especially welcome candidates whose professional experience, community engagement, and personal background have facilitated their understanding of and ability to better serve students from historically marginalized communities in disrupting systemic educational inequities, with a preference for expertise in social studies methods to support the GSE’s evolving curriculum needs.Specifically, we seek a dynamic scholar committed to critical, community-engaged, and collaborative approaches to advancing equity, excellence, and social justice in education through active research, teaching, and service. The ideal candidate will have experience researching issues about equity in elementary and secondary teaching, as well as experience preparing prospective and practicing teachers to teach for equity.
Candidates should understand curriculum development and experience or interest in program leadership, innovation, and growth. We welcome candidates in issues of urban education, diversity, and social justice with various backgrounds. The scholar filling this position will participate actively in local, state, and national professional organizations, teach and advise students at all levels, and contribute to the service mission of the Graduate School of Education and the university.Our School and University strongly encourage applications from individuals who are members of groups that have been and still are underrepresented in university faculty positions.
