Assistant Program Purchasing Manager - GM Defense
Job Description

Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This position requires an employee to be onsite 3 times per week.  Other than the 3 times per week on site, the employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.  

This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

GM Defense (GMD) continues a 100-year legacy of designing, validating, and manufacturing vehicles and equipment in support of defense and other government customers.  Within GM Defense, the recently created Autonomous Driving and Robotics group is charged with adapting, integrating, and enhancing GM’s automated driving capabilities to the needs of GM Defense customers.

The Role: 
As a program team member, the Assistant Program Purchasing Manager (APPM) with GM Defense is responsible for leading GPSC program team deliverables across all SMT’s by working collaboratively with Program Team! The Assistant Program Purchasing Manager leads the execution of strategies to achieve program profitability targets and key GVDP deliverables for GPSC. This business individual will provide direction to keep the program timely, within budget, with quality, while aligning with the Program Team!

Use non-traditional strategies and creativity to navigate unique issuesEmbrace a Go Fast mentality to perform in a face spaced environmentAchieve program profitability/EBIT targets on the vehicle architectureCommunicate volume changes, content, footprint changes, etc.Actively work with GM Customs to ensure USMCA ComplianceSupport various sourcing activities and commodity strategies throughout the GDVP, Support DDRs / Conduct Mid-Point PSRs / PSR ApprovalsReview Financial and operational metrics within PET/Purchasing forumsSupport New Technology adoptionCoordinate and prepare GPSC - PQRR deliverables & Program Gate Reviews for leadershipSupport Launch ExcellenceSupport global programs and sourcing alignment

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

Bachelors degree or equivalent experience5+ years of post-graduation work experience in Direct Purchasing or Program Purchasing, supply chain or relevant experience.Strong business acumen, interpersonal verbal and written communication skills while maintaining the ability to prioritize tasks, balance multiple Programs simultaneously and meet deadlinesCoordinate internal and cross-SMT Issue escalation processDemonstrate ability to manage ambiguity and work independentlyFamiliarity with SMT commodity structure, component architecture & supply base strategyFamiliarity with GVDP, program & sourcing process timelinesAbility to travel at least 5% of time, including international travel

Defense industry experienceExperience with SAP Base Procurement SystemsKnowledge of procurement software and materials managementAbility to read blueprints and to understand basic engineering documentsProven knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processesAbility to work globally, independently, and self-directed
