Position description Assistant Project Scientist - Gregory Donaldson Lab at UCLA UCLA’s Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics is seeking to fill a full-time Assistant Project Scientist position. The Assistant Project Scientist candidate will perform independent research to develop new methods for in vivo microbiome transcriptomics. The Assistant Project Scientist position is a 12-month non-Senate position. Specific responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: + Lead the end-to-end technical development, validation, and deployment of new methods for measuring transcriptomes of host-associated bacteria and bacterial communities. + Maintain mouse colonies, tissue culture cell lines, and entero-organoids to use as models of host-associated bacteria or bacterial communities. + Develop and optimize protocols for RNA preparation from different samples and tissues. + Cultivate and genetically manipulate aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. + Teach graduate students and other members of the lab how to work with model systems related to host-microbe interactions, including: gnotobiotic mice, entero-organoids, and tissue-cultured monolayers. + Assist with preparation of grant proposals. + Preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
