Jacobs is seeking an Assistant Public Works Director to join our team in the Baton Rouge, LA area. In this role, you'll be responsible for the following: Strategic Leadership: Assist in developing and implementing long-term strategic plans for the Public Works Department, aligning with the city's overall goals with infrastructure, maintenance needs, stormwater assets, construction, and engineering services. Operational Oversight: Oversee daily operations, including maintenance, construction, and capital improvement projects. Financial Management: Support the Department Director in preparing, prioritizing, and managing annual operating and capital budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure fiscal responsibility. Team Leadership: Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing team of public works professionals. Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to address concerns and promote public works initiatives. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental and safety standards. Emergency Response: Develop, manage, and coordinate comprehensive, emergency response efforts, such as natural disasters or severe weather events while collaborating with other city and state agencies, contractors, and local officials to ensure a safe, swift, and effective response. Position is Contingent on award of project #omfs #ourjacobs #bia #challengeaccepted • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (required). • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of progressive management experience in public works, engineering, or a related field. • Licenses/Certifications: Engineer In Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred, but not required. A valid driver's license and good driving record are necessary. • Knowledge: Strong understanding of public works operations, engineering principles, stormwater management, construction practices, and regulatory compliance the community’s local officials, businesses, and residents to understand needs and prioritize solutions. • Skills: Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage large teams, complex budgets, and high-profile projects.
