The Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, seeks applicants for an Assistant Researcher. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in earth science, planetary science, geobiology, astrobiology, or related fields.
The person hired will conduct research in the fields of geomicrobiology/geobiology and astrobiology with a focus on mineral preservation, halophilic microorganism ecology, metabolite study (including nucleic acid, protein, and amino acid studies), planetary analog stressors for microbial life, geobiological interactions using planetary in-situ datasets, and fieldwork to planetary analogue sites internationally and domestic. They will also attend weekly research group meetings, have bi-weekly meetings with the PI, and work together collaboratively with our research group. Finally, there will be conference travel where the person may present project and data interpretations.
