Position description
Assistant Researcher I in Oceanic Circulation and Biogeochemical Processes Computer Modeling
The Assistant Researcher I will work on problems of oceanic circulation dynamics and biogeochemical processes using the Regional Oceanic Modeling System (ROMS). The researcher will be under the guidance of Prof. James C. McWilliams in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and will join a highly experienced group with expertise in computational methods, realistic simulation of complex flows, and dynamical processes. The focus of the research will be oceanic simulation modeling. Problems of interest include multiple areas in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Medierranean Oceans. The work is partly motivated and supported by field experiments.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physical oceanography or related discipline, five years of experience at the post-doctoral level in numerical modeling of oceanic flows (preferably using ROMS), a knowledge of geophysical fluid dynamics, a good publication record, the ability to synthesize both ocean model output and oceanographic observations, and an interest in collaboration on interdisciplinary problems.
