Assistant Resident Engineer

Role description:

Arcadis seeks a highly experienced Assistant Resident Engineer to join our team for a significant rail tunnel project in the New York / New Jersey area. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a landmark infrastructure project, shaping the future of transportation in the region. Join us in building a legacy of excellence in civil engineering and construction. This role will be pivotal in ensuring the successful execution of the project, focusing on heavy civil engineering, large shafts, excavation, and tunneling aspects. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in similar large-scale infrastructure projects. 

Role accountabilities:

Assist the Resident Engineer in overseeing all aspects of the rail tunnel project.  Supervise and coordinate daily construction activities, ensuring adherence to plans, specifications, and safety protocols.  Conduct inspections and quality control checks to verify work is performed according to project requirements.  Manage and resolve technical issues that arise during construction, collaborating with project stakeholders, as necessary.  Review and approve contractor submittals, including drawings, method statements, and materials.  Monitor project progress, prepare progress reports, and participate in project meetings.  Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and project specifications.  Support in managing project budgets and schedules to achieve timely completion. 

Qualifications & Experience:

10+ years of progressive experience in heavy civil construction, with a focus on large shafts, excavation, and ideally, tunneling.  Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience.  Proven track record in managing complex construction projects, preferably in rail or transportation infrastructure.  Strong technical knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety standards.  Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.  Ability to handle pressure and solve problems in a fast-paced environment.  Proficiency in relevant software and tools for project management and documentation. 

 Preferred Qualifications: 

Previous experience working on rail tunnel projects.  Familiarity with local regulations and permitting processes (though not required).  Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus, but not mandatory for this role.

Arcadis offers benefits for full time and part time positions. These benefits include medical, dental, and vision, EAP,  401K, STD, LTD, AD&D, life insurance, paid parental leave, reward & recognition program and optional benefits including wellbeing benefits, adoption assistance and tuition reimbursement.  We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $100,000- $151,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
