It also serves as the base teaching hospital for Michigan State University. About this unit This 31-bed unit is dedicated to Oncology and Med-Surg overflow. This unit schedules daily short stays for chemotherapy treatment, blood transfusions, bone marrow biopsies and cardiac catheterization. Also specializes with surgical patients with epidurals and can accommodate telemetry patients. The nurse patient ratio is based on acuity, census, and activity. This unit also covers the 8-bed infusion center which is also included on the third floor. Scope of work Under the direction of the nurse manager or other nursing leader, the assistant nurse manager has responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing department and their effect on patient care in the department.
