Summary of Position:
The Assistant Safety Manger is responsible for managing and monitoring safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Supports the Corporate Safety Department by facilitating inspections to identify unsafe conditions and training for proactive safety measures.
Functions of the Position: % of Time Essential/ Marginal
· Completes daily facility walk-through of all buildings to identify
safety concerns and conduct compliance required audits.
Stocks first aid kits for facility and maintains first aid log. 15% Essential
· Coordinates with Corporate Safety team on all issues that
require immediate attention. 15% Essential
· Manages the safety committee and all related activities. 15% Essential
· Performs initial and reoccurring forklift training. (Classroom
and proficiency testing) 10% Essential
· Maintains safety communication boards and postings. Prepares
written reports and metrics for the Corporate Safety
Department. Responsible for SDS Online site and chemical
updates. 10% Essential
· Conducts safety trainings. Champions site corporate safety
programs. 10% Essential
· Monitors workers compensation claims and costs. Coordinates
medical treatment and “return-to-work” for employees to
reduce workers compensation costs and absenteeism. 10% Essential
· Aids supervisors/managers in accident/incident investigations
and assists with completion of all required documentation. 10% Essential
· Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe
and quality food by following current good manufacturing practices,
allergen/sanitation controls, food defense/food fraud, HACCP/FSMA, SQF, and
regulatory requirements.
· Aware and accountable for maintaining and documenting preventative controls
necessary to ensure food safety and quality.
· Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to
management.
· Responsible for partnering with others, sharing knowledge, skills, and
information within assigned team and across functional areas.
· Responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as
professional and leadership development.
· Other Duties as assigned. Continually
· Responsible for compliance with all safety policies and procedures established for health and workplace safety. · Responsible for supporting safety culture by practicing safe work behaviors, reporting potential hazards, and conducting safety observations as assigned.

Qualifications
· Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
o Associate or bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Safety or Behavioral based leadership preferred.
o Three-four years of experience in safety or related discipline.
o Experience in training safety programs and preventing unsafe conditions and acts.
o Required knowledge of OSHA regulations.
o Minimum of 3 years in a safety role in a manufacturing setting; food manufacturing preferred.
· Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
o OSHA 30
o Associate Safety Professional preferred
· Skills and Competencies:
o Microsoft Office proficiency: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
o Ability to communicate with all levels of management as well as hourly employees.
o Self-motived and able to work unsupervised.
Job Specific Requirements:
In the event that the Assistant Safety Manager is absent, the Plant Manager is responsible for providing an equally qualified person to cover this position.
