University of Rochester: Office of the Provost: Academic Center: LLE-Laboratory for Laser Energ **Salary Range or Pay Grade** $82,500-$110,000 Annually **Description** **POSITION SUMMARY** LLE has an opening for an Assistant Scientist to support experiments for pulsed-laser and x-ray material-interaction investigations. The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of laser and plasma diagnostics, experience comparing experimental observations with modeling and simulation results, and a demonstrated track record of scholarship. A Ph.D. in Physics or Engineering concentrating on x-ray/laser-material-plasma interactions is required. Preference will be given to candidates that have experience working on Omega Laser Facility. Hands-on experience developing and deploying diagnostics and diagnostic equipment in laboratory settings is highly desired. Experience interacting and working with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers to accomplish complex goals is essential. **RESPONSIBLITIES:** + Conduct and analyze OMEGA experiments studying pulsed laser effects + Support the operation of existing and newly acquired equipment and instrumentation for laser physics experiments + Design, build, and field optical and x-ray diagnostics for experiments that include lasers, vacuum systems, targets, and diagnostics + Write reports on relevant work and disseminate results through conferences and peer-reviewed publications. **Qualifications** **QUALIFICATIONS:** + Ph.D. in Experimental Physics or Engineering + US Citizenship Required **ESESSENTIAL SKILLS:** + Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn additional software operation + Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and navigate stairs/ladders + Excellent verbal and written communication + Work both independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary team + Programming experience **PREFERRED SKILLS** + Experience with programming language such as Python or C + Modeling expertise of laser-plasma interactions + Technical writing experience **Application Instructions** Upload a current CV and cover letter **SALARY RANGE:** $82,500 to $110,000 Annually The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job.
