Assistant Scientist
As part of the National Institutes of Health's Implementing a Maternal health and Pregnancy Outcomes Vision for Everyone (IMPROVE) Initiative, the Maternal Health Data Innovation and Coordination Hub (Data Hub) at Johns Hopkins University works to strengthen the coordination of innovative research and practice efforts in maternal health across 12 Maternal Health Centers of Excellence in the United States. The Data Hub is a multidisciplinary effort bringing together experts in maternal health, biostatistics, and health informatics from the Bloomberg School of Public Health and the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. The IMPROVE Initiative supports research to reduce preventable causes of maternal deaths and improve health for women before, during, and after delivery. It includes a special emphasis on health disparities and populations that are disproportinately affected, such as racial and ethnic minorities, very young women and women of advanced maternal age, and people with disabilities. The Data Hub is looking for two Assistant Scientists to join the team and support it activities under supervison of the Principal investigator. The Data Hub is funded by the National Institutes of Health until July 2030. Key Responsibilities: Serve as Scientific Liaison for 1-2 Maternal Health Centers of Excellence: Meet with Principal Investigators and other scientists to identify scientific areas where the Data Hub can offer support for data collection, analysis and dissemination. Support Implementation of common data elements across the IMPROVE Initative: Review research protocols, data collection tools, methods, and analytical plans to ensure that the NIH-recommended common data elements are collected and reported. Offer technical assistance on maternal health research conducted by Maternal Health Centers of Excellence: Support the development of IRB protocols, data collection, analysis, reporting and data sharing to NIH repositories. Data Analysis: Conduct analyses of maternal health data using available data. Literature Review & Synthesis: Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to inform research questions and methodologies used by Maternal Health Centers of Excellence; synthesize findings to identify gaps in existing knowledge and propose new reseach avenues. Collaborative Research: Work closely with researchers, data scientists, and other stakeholders at Johns Hopkins and Maternal Health Centers of Excellence to conduct research and generate new scientific evidence to improve maternal health. Knowlege Translation: Disseminate research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and stakeholder reports; translate complex research outcomes into actionable insights for policy makers, practitioners, and the general public. Supervison and Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior researchers, research assistants, and graduate students. Contribute to the academic environment through teaching or guest lecturing as needed. Ph.D, DrPH, or a similar professional degree in public health, epidemiology, or biostatistics Proficiency in mixed methods research Preferred qualifications: Experience conducting maternal health research Experience providing technical assistance and support research activities Experience working with large databases and/or electronic health records Qualified candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter detailing relevant training and experience, a list of 3 references, and a writing sample via the Interfolio application site. Salary: $85,000- $120,000. a year Additional Information Salary Range The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
