Job SummaryThe Assistant Sports Information Coordinator is responsible for communication activities and media relations to promote The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Athletics in a positive manner through a variety of internal and external media opportunities. This position’s responsibilities include assisting with managing home athletic contests, including statistics, announcements, photos and game programs, writing and editing content for a variety of publications. This position will also update the athletics website and utilize professional design software.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
Responsible for assisting in the compilation, development, dissemination, and management of all UT Tyler sports information, including promotion, marketing, fundraising, production of public relations materials, writing sports releases and special articles, reporting of scores and statistics, and maintenance of the UT Tyler Athletics website. Assist with the maintenance of the athletics website with timely, accurate and creative content, including post-game stories, statistics, player spotlight features, marketing and news items. Assist with the creation of poster graphics, social media graphics, video highlights, interviews and promotions. Assist with creating entertaining video board content for Basketball, Volleyball, Softball and Baseball video boards. Produce informative and creative content on UT Tyler athletic programs, events, student athletes, and coaches for fans and media outlets. Spotlight players and coaches’ stories in a journalistic style to increase web and social media traffic and highlight the programs. Effectively use the UT Tyler Athletics social media accounts (“X”, Instagram, Facebook, You-tube, etc.) to promote Athletics with live updates for assigned games. Oversee designated areas of game management including set-up, staffing, game broadcasts, photography, programs and statistical reporting to the NCAA. Responsible for statistics for assigned home games, including producing live stat feeds and live streaming for instant access of content. Produces informative previews and notes for the use of broadcasters, news media, and fans for assigned sports. Assist with the compiling of statistical and historical record information for student-athletes and teams and reports to NCAA, LSC, and sports organizations. Utilizes www.uttylerpatriots.com to post information on all programs. Creation of web pages that highlights the success of the program, coaches, and players. Ensures that statistics are updated instantly to provide access to media and fans on game days. Works within the athletic department to promote marketing, ticket sales, special events and special promotions. Includes assisting in the planning and management of LSC and NCAA postseason events/tournaments. Provides content to local, regional and national media to assist in promotion of athletic programs. Assist with the promotion of home events within the campus community and within the Tyler community to encourage greater participation at home events. Travels to away games when able to cover teams in a journalistic style to produce content that will be posted on UT Tyler outlets along with distributing video highlights, post-game interviews, photos and information to local and regional media for use in their publications and television broadcasts. Understand and comply with NCAA Division II, conference and University rules and regulations. Attend departmental, LSC and assigned committee meetings. Train a team of students to fulfill content marketing goals through social media by using strong graphics, informative text and creative video content. The University of Texas at Tyler is a premier site for collegiate competitions. As such, the institution hosts NCAA National Championships. It is the expectation that the Assistant Sports Information Coordinator will be a participant in the planning and execution of a successful NCAA Championship. Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree. One (1) year of collegiate sports information experience. Proficient in Genius Sports Statting Software for all of UT Tyler's Varsity Athletic Programs. Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite with special attention to Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro.Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.Ability to develop relationships with and interact with local and regional media outlets as well as national sports media outlets.
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with university community, outside community, and press.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines.
Must have a visual aesthetic that highlights the department, teams, staff, and student-athletes in a positive manner.
Must possess a commitment to student learning and success, as well as a dedication to growth, development, innovation, and improvement.
Must possess commitment and capabilities to abide by NCAA by-laws and Lone Star Conference regulations.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
Strong computer skills including computerized data entry, Microsoft Office, and Adobe creative Suite.
Successful candidate must have high competencies in writing, grammar, spelling and editing copy.
