Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach (4 Seasonal positions- .25 FTE - 1FTE) JobID: 1828 + Position Type: Athletics/Activities/ Coaching + Date Posted: 3/1/2024 + Location: Norwalk High School + Date Available: Spring + Closing Date: Until filled    NORWALK COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Position: Strength and Conditioning Coach (4 Seasonal positions- .25 FTE - 1 FTE) Reports To: Director of Activities Purpose of Position To promote a fundamentally sound strength and conditioning program with an emphasis on physical fitness, ability and performance development to encourage a strong work ethic and positive attitude toward strength training and physical conditioning. Qualifications: (Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education, Certification/Licensure, Experience, Equipment) + Minimum of three years combined experience either in a high school or intercollegiate strength and conditioning program. + A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of lifting. + Experience and/or expertise in the area of strength and conditioning and fitness programming for diverse populations. + Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills. + Ability to motivate high school students. Education + Earned Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Strength and Conditioning, Coaching, or Education. Certification/Licensure + Coaching Authorization issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners – or willingness to obtain within a reasonable period of time. + Certified in First Aid and CPR. Equipment + Knowledge in the safe operation and maintenance of weight equipment and machines. + Knowledge of the operation of multi-media equipment including current technology. Supervision of Others + Coaching staff working with students, staff and others in the facility + Interns working with students, staff and others in the facility Essential Duties and Responsibilities + The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. + Other duties may be required and assigned. + Direct all facets of program, staff and facility operations related to the strength and conditioning program. + Design and have final review of all exercise-related training programs; develop individual and team programs for pre-season, in-season, and off-season as well as for students not involved in athletics. + Oversee the athletic performance and physical fitness operation ensuring compliance with school, conference and state rules and regulations. + Coordinate and conduct orientation meetings for those who use the facility about proper training technique, nutrition, and dangers of banned substances. + Oversee the selection, installation, and maintenance of performance equipment including cleaning and repair. + Develop staff work, supervision schedules, assign duties and evaluate performance. + Coordinate time schedules for the use of the facility by students, athletic teams, and staff. + Work and communicate with coaches and staff about all aspects of programming and student and team use. + Develop and submit the annual budget and ensure budgetary compliance through efficient and financial management; budget available funds for maintenance and improvement of facility. + Perform other duties and special projects as it pertains to strength & conditioning and/or physical fitness promotion. + Effectively and properly motivate students and athletes to achieve maximum potential in all areas of performance. + Keep updated on current strength and conditioning research and attend appropriate training. + Communicate with students, parents, and the community on the value of strength and conditioning for all students. + Communicate with and be the liaison between Community Education for program development, implementation, and scheduling and facility usage. Physical Requirements + Satisfactory health as certified by a competent medical authority upon hire + Ability to organize and think clearly while communicating, organizing and evaluating. + Repetitious bending, lifting and hand movement. + Ability to work while standing, moving and/or walking. + Drug, tobacco, and alcohol free while working. + Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids. + Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites. Working Conditions + Majority of work is performed in a fitness center setting to include sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 pounds. + Work hours are diverse in nature with time spent in the morning, afternoon, and evening + Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergency situations Terms of Employment 1.
