Job Summary
Under immediate supervision, is responsible for assisting a classroom teacher in planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of four-year-old students enrolled in the City's Pre-K 4 SA program at the Education Centers. Assists the teacher with classroom preparation and daily growth and development of students. Exercises no supervision.
This position is funded by sales tax that has been approved by the citizens of San Antonio for a limited time period. This position, therefore, is subject to at-will employment status, is unclassified, and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission.
Work Location
Varies depending on the needs of the department.
Work Hours
6:45 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday; Schedule will vary based on departmental needs.
Essential Job Functions
+ Assists teacher with implementation of high quality early childhood curriculum.
+ Assists in planning and preparing learning environment and preparing needed materials and supplies.
+ Observes student's progress and communicates with classroom teacher.
+ Participates in ongoing professional and staff development activities.
+ Prepares, adapts and delivers instruction to students in groups and individually.
+ Actively interacts with children, engaging in powerful interactions, participating as partners in play, supporting and extending learning.
+ Assists in maintaining a clean and organized learning environment.
+ Assists teacher in maintaining discipline, supervision of students, and uses guidance strategies appropriate for young children.
+ Assists with duties and supervision on the bus.
+ Maintains open communication with parents. Builds relationships with students to create a positive, safe, and welcoming school culture.
+ Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
+ Forty-eight (48) hours of college credit from an accredited college or university.
+ Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment OR Twelve (12) of the forty-eight (48) hours of college credit in Education or Childhood Development from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Previous experience working with young children in a private, charter, public school, or daycare setting.
+ Ability to pass DFPS (Texas Department of Family Protective Services) background check.
+ Bilingual in English & Spanish.

+ Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
+ Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, additional background checks may be conducted.

+ Knowledge of safe and appropriate activities for students.
+ Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing associated software.
+ Skill in use of classroom and instructional equipment.
+ Skill in organizing, planning and prioritizing work.
+ Skill in resolving conflicts and negotiating with others.
+ Ability to interpret and apply Federal, State, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
+ Ability to participate in current or long-range planning projects.
+ Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose best solution and solve problems.
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
+ Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally.
+ Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position.
