Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Department of Justice Studies at Montclair State University is actively seeking applications for a Non-Tenure Track Faculty member to join our dynamic team starting in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will teach four classes each semester at an introductory level, as well as those in our research sequence, and those in the candidate’s area of specialty.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the essential life of the department through such activities as mentoring, advising, recruiting, and attending various department and college meetings.

Position is a two-year, ten-month, non-tenure track appointment, with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTTP procedures.

          

THE COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES:

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is Montclair State’s largest college with over 5,000 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. CHSS facilitates traditional and interdisciplinary learning, and is the professional home of many outstanding scholars and instructors across numerous disciplines, all of whom lend to CHSS’s mission to furnish academically rigorous and relevant programs of study that contribute to the development of an informed and engaged civil society. CHSS’s programs develop in students the abilities to discover, create, evaluate, apply, and share knowledge, so that they will be able to think critically, act ethically, and be informed citizen-participants prepared to assume leadership roles in their communities. THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE STUDIES:

The Department of Justice Studies is the second largest department in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Our dynamic faculty are one of the most diverse at Montclair State University and are from a variety of disciplines, our interdisciplinary focus includes Criminal Justice/Criminology, Law, International Justice, and Social Justice. Justice Studies services a large minority and first-generation college student population. Our faculty are dedicated to providing support and guidance for our students, as well as a robust education experience to prepare them for the workforce and are highly engaged in local communities, as well as their respective disciplines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates who apply for the positions of Non-Tenured Track Faculty (10 Month Contract) in Justice Studies should have teaching experience in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or related fields. Applicants are expected to provide service to the Department of Justice Studies, possess excellent teaching skills and hold a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or a related field at the time of appointment.

SALARY RANGE     Commensurate with experience
