The Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society accredited Advanced Veterinary Specialists as a Level II Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Facility in January 2015. Only two veterinary hospitals in California have received the Level II distinction, and one of them is AVS! This certification is intended to recognize hospitals that go over and beyond the basic requirements set forth by VECCS. VECCS does this to raise the standard for treatment while also promoting public and professional awareness of the importance of providing emergency and critical patient care for veterinary patients. We are seeking an Assistant Hospital Manager to help lead our beautiful hospital in Santa Barbara!The ideal candidate:If you are a dedicated and compassionate individual with a passion for animal care, we invite you to join our team. Some of the responsibilities you will own in this role:Coach, manage, and develop a team of clinical leads spanning multiple different clinical departmentsManage daily staffing levels, moving labor to increase efficiency and support departments with gaps in staffingAssist the leads in implementing training plans and updating SOPs for every department. Help train all employees to advance their clinical skill setsCreate effective onboarding plans for all new employees and track their progressOversee leads to ensure they are proactively creating schedules for all departments and effectively managing call outsAct as the primary source of information, maintain consistency and take corrective action when neededPartner with the Hospital Managers and MDs to assist with process improvement projectsDevelop and implement strategies to enhance the hospital's reputation and increase referral volumes.Develop and maintain strong relationships with referring veterinary practices to foster trust and collaboration.This role is exempt. Compensation is between $65,000 to $80,000 annually.
Basic required qualifications:College degree and five years of progressively responsible work experience, or the equivalent combination of education/experienceExperience managing a facility and multiple direct reportsExcellent leadership, management, staff development, problem-solving, interpersonal, presentation and organizational skillsComfortable with ambiguity and change managementThe ability to deliver results, create strategic plans, develop staff, and the desire to develop and progress your knowledge and skillsSchedule flexibility to effectively operate in a 24/7, 365 days a year work environmentMaintain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP); must obtain within 60 days of hire or transfer into this role; (this requirement is waived if the incumbent holds a valid CA-RVT license)Desired Experience:Experience in the veterinary industryLeadership backgroundWork schedule:Full-Time with flexibility in covering shifts to consider hospital needs Benefits:Full-time benefits include health, dental, vision, disability and life insurances, flex-spending accounts, 401(k), Employee Assistance Program, 3 weeks accrued paid time off
