Join our revered team as the Assistant Vice President of Broad-Based Compensation at The Hartford, a prominent Fortune 250 company. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for designing and driving strategic compensation initiatives, and ensuring that pay practices are both competitive and equitable in order to attract and retain top talent. This is a unique opportunity to influence the compensation framework and Total Rewards strategy of a dynamic organization, promoting a rewarding work environment for all employees.
You will collaborate with senior leadership, HR business partners, managers and other key stakeholders, providing expert advice and guidance on compensation matters. You will lead a team of seven compensation professionals who collaborate with HR business partners, managers and employees throughout the entire organization. Your ability to lead and develop a team, communicate effectively, and build strong relationships is essential to your success in this role.
Additionally, you will oversee a budget of ~$2.5 million, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support compensation initiatives. Your financial acumen and vendor management capabilities will be essential in managing budget expenditures, making adjustments as necessary, and cultivating extended partnerships.

The AVP of Broad-Based Compensation will report to the Head of Total Rewards and will be based in our Hartford, CT Home Office on a hybrid basis (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the office).
Key Responsibilities:
+ Develop and Implement Compensation Strategies: Design and execute comprehensive broad-based compensation strategies that align with the company's business objectives and support its growth. Ensure that compensation programs are competitive, equitable, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
+ Collaboration: Work closely with HR, finance, and senior leadership to ensure that compensation practices are aligned with the company's overall goals. Provide expert advice and guidance on compensation matters to managers and employees at all levels of the organization.
+ Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of compensation professionals. Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that encourages professional growth and development.
+ Market Analysis: Conduct regular market analysis to maintain competitive salary structures. Utilize data-driven insights to make informed decisions about salary adjustments, incentive plans, and other compensation-related matters.
+ Compliance: Ensure that all compensation programs comply with federal, state, and local regulations in partnership with our Law team. Stay up-to-date with changes in compensation laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
+ Communications and Change Management: Ensure that compensation-related communications are clear, consistent, and effectively address the needs and concerns of all stakeholders, while aligning with the Total Rewards, Talent and Culture philosophies.
Qualifications:
+ A minimum of 10+ years of experience in compensation, total rewards, and/or as an HR Business partner. Some experience in compensation and/or total rewards required; some experience in a large corporate setting preferred.
+ Demonstrated emotional intelligence and leadership skills with the ability to develop, inspire, influence and motivate a high performing team. Experience managing a team that interacts with various levels of employees across the company.
+ Extensive experience in compensation management, with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful compensation strategies in a large company. Experience in benefits and/or total rewards is a plus as is experience managing a budget.
+ Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions. Proficiency in compensation analysis tools and software.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to a diverse audience within all layers of the organizations (executive to front line) in simplified manner. Experience with change management is a plus.
+ Collaborative team player who develops strong working relationships; a self-starter who takes initiative.
+ In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations. Ability to ensure compliance with all relevant legal requirements.
+ Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple competing priorities effectively.
+ Proven experience designing and executing compensation strategies through HRBP’s, leaders, and teams to achieve business objectives.
+ Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field. A master's degree or relevant certification (e.g., CCP) is preferred.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$168,080 - $252,120
