Assistant Vice President & Actuary

Claims Actuarial Insights strives to empower claims professionals with actionable intelligence.  The team works closely with senior leaders to identify claims trends, develop performance metrics, and provide catastrophe projections and reporting.  Projects are primarily focused on North America but overseas opportunities exist.  This department is a great place for someone who would like to develop strategic thinking, business acumen, and communication skills.

We are seeking an Assistant Vice President & Actuary to join the team.  The candidate who fills this position will be a leader within the department and key contributor to the team’s analysis of claim trends.  The role reports to the Vice President & Actuary of Claims Actuarial Insights. It is a hybrid role with 3 days in office and 2 days remote.  This position can be based in our Whitehouse Station, NJ or Philadelphia, PA office.

Primary Responsibilities: 

Lead a team of 3-5 onshore resources and 1 offshore resource at different experience levels.  Effectively set and track priorities, delegate and review assignments, create efficient workflows, and ensure on-time and quality deliverables.  Provide updates and insights on claim metrics and trends to Claims, Underwriting, and Actuarial senior leadership. Develop insightful performance metrics to help drive more-efficient claim operations.  This includes inventory management, large loss management, reserve adequacy, staffing adequacy, etc.  Provide analysis for strategic initiatives and develop tracking methodologies to monitor progress. Support special and ad hoc analyses that facilitate effective decision making. Work with Claims IT and Business Intelligence to influence claim data strategy and define requirements necessary to support actuarial analyses. 

Requirements:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; 8+ years of experience in property/casualty actuarial disciplines; ACAS or FCAS credential Proficiency in Excel and working knowledge of VBA Proficiency in SQL server; Working knowledge of R or Python is a plus Working knowledge of QlikSense, Power BI, or Cognos is a plus Able to maintain good documentation and record keeping Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications to non-actuarial business leaders Excellent project and time management skills, will take ownership of projects, works comfortably in team environment, results-oriented Strong leadership skills with managerial or supervisory experience preferred Desire to work in a fast-paced, fluid environment
