Associate, Credit Analysis (Commodity Finance)

OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION

The Commodity Finance (“CF”) Team primarily provides working capital solutions to commodity traders and commodity corporates based in EMEA (Producers, processors, marketers, distributors, etc) to meet their financing needs in all phases of commodity trading activities;CF is relationship manager for Independent Commodity Traders and for some Commodity Corporates; CF is product partner for RM offices of most Commodity Corporates.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

Provide credit recommendations and monitor risks by understanding client needs, and delivering the best ideas, solutions to support the origination of commodity finance related business (i.e. Bilateral Trade Finance Lines, ARPS, Export LC business, Borrowing Bases etc.) and ancillary business within MUFG under the supervision of the Credit and Structuring Lead - Energy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Client Delivery

Specifically, you will be accountable and responsible for taking appropriate action with respect to your allocated portfolio of customers of the Energy desk, Commodity Finance, within Commodity & Structured Trade Finance, including:

Provide administrative and technical support to the Team Head, Energy, to enable the effective development and management of customer relationships.Manage a portfolio of credit accounts, which require supporting Relationship Managers; performing credit-related due diligence; identify, quantify risk drivers and propose mitigants in structured and vanilla transactions; transaction execution; monitor deadlines; and, review and execute facility documentation.Provide credit support to colleagues by preparing information and analysis as directed by senior team members.Contribute to high level analysis of client strategy using this in conjunction with market analysis to develop client recommendations and rationales for DSC and credit approval.Contribute to business development activities including meeting new clients.Prepare and support financial analysis and credit applications as directed by senior team members.Contribute to the enhancement of the credit process, contribute to strategic initiatives, and provide support to the overall portfolio management.Conduct straight forward data analysis and data manipulation to enable interpretation of figures, patterns and trends.Run financial scenarios following precedent models to identify simple patterns and trends, to provide senior managers with information to support decision making.Conduct research from a range of generalised and specialist sources, extracting relevant information and summarising data to inform decision making at more senior levels.Review Facility and Security documentation accepting accountability for straightforward commercial aspects and referring to senior team members for more complex issues. Additionally, to liaise with European Legal Office and/or external legal counsel for their areas of responsibility to ensure that commercial and legal aspects meet MUFG standards.Contribute to the development, adaptation and application of policy, procedures and analysis to ensure a relevant, compliant and rigorous approach to the management of any risk which can negatively affect the portfolioLiaise with internal counterparts throughout MUFG and with external counterparts at clients to gather relevant information to support decision making and planning

2) Risk Management

As Credit Analyst – Associate, you will be responsible for monitoring, and taking action further to your delegated authority in respect of, the risk being run across your client portfolio within the Energy desk, Commodity Finance, within Commodity & Structured Trade Finance. You are/will:

responsible, for your client portfolio, for managing all relevant risks (including, but not limited to, market, credit, operational and conduct risks) within the firm’s risk appetite including through the use and continued development of market-leading risk management models and monitoring tools.

Responsible for conducting business in line with internal policies and procedures as well as regulatory requirements.

Ensure that the Global Governance Standards are supported by appropriate and effective compliance policies and procedures that are applied consistently across the Energy desk Commodity Finance, within Commodity & Structured Trade Finance; and responsible, for your client portfolio, for ensuring that the Energy desk, Commodity Finance, within ECA, Commodity & Structured Trade Finance supplying information for risk and financial reporting is well managed and, within the policies established by the Company and Operating Entity's, Boards and appropriate committees;

3) Controls and Compliance

You are responsible for ensuring the Company’s compliance with internal risk and compliance requirements, controls and procedures, including personally, following all relevant policies and procedures, and ensuring those in your teams also follow policy and procedures.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Essential:

Good corporate credit analysis and research skills (including stress test and modelling) ideally gained in a banking environment (minimum 3 years).

Preferred:

Experience in a Credit Sanctioning Department;A background in natural resources finance.
