The DCM Associate is responsible for assisting clients in accessing global debt markets across both loans and bonds and is also responsible for providing support to the senior originators of the DCM Loans & Bonds team.
Debt Capital Markets Mandate
Develop a sustainable, client-focused, primary markets origination business for MUFG clients
Develop value-added direct DCM client relationships with loan and bond issuer clients
Work with broader coverage / relationship management team to develop/broaden the overall relationship with core clients by providing high quality support and product interface with regard to capital markets financing opportunities
Origination of debt transactions for issuance into global capital markets
Main Purpose of the Role
Your role in contributing to the above mandate is to support the PF and LevFin businesses within the DCM team as further described below:
Project Finance (“PF”) – deliver innovative financing solutions to PF borrowers / sponsors taking into account a broadening investor universe including regional / global bank, bond, institutional, samurai and other investors
Leveraged Finance (“LevFin”) deliver comprehensive financing solutions to our financial sponsor clients across the product spectrum ranging from TLA, TLB, HYB, Unitranche, Mezzanine, Back-leverage and other bespoke private credit financing structures.
To support the growth of the APAC DCM business with a specific focus on originating opportunities and supporting the senior DCM originators on both PF, LevFin and acquisition finance opportunities
Develop and maintain strong understanding of PF and LevFin fundamentals (structure, financial model, due diligence, documentation etc.)
Production and maintenance of high-quality market research on pricing, participations, deal structures and investor activity as required for tailor-made client presentations, pitches, underwriting/stretch hold applications as well as thought leadership
Provide support to senior origination team members in opportunity identification, financial analysis, pricing and liquidity insights, syndication/execution strategy and coordinating all aspects of the internal approval process
Collaborate with MUFG distribution teams and other regional and global syndicate teams to obtain latest market insights and drive MUFG’s O&D strategy
Develop and maintain effective relationship with counterparts in other banking institutions as well as financial sponsors to maximise market profile, origination opportunities as well as deal efficiency and collaboration opportunities
Develop a practical understanding of all core systems and procedures within Debt Capital Markets with a view to implement efficiencies and improvements where possible.
Contribute to build, protect and enhance MUFG’s brand within the PF and LevFin segments to generate a pipeline of deal flow consistent with MUFG’s regional and global strategies and focus
Other Responsibilities
Comply with MUFG’s policies and procedures and conduct yourself in a way which is commensurate with MUFG’s values
Preparing high-quality pitchbooks and materials for client meetings and follow-ups
Provide insightful and regular market and pricing updates for internal and external clients
Perform high quality analytical work in relation to client funding and/or corporate requirements with a product neutral and solutions focused approach
React to client enquiries in a risk-sensitive manner, ensuring proposed solutions are appropriate for the client and meet the requirements of best execution
Ensure AML/KYC and compliance standards are met for all transactions
Conduct business in line with regulatory requirements (including Volcker, EMIR and MIFID).
Coordinate between all internal and external stakeholders and deal team members to ensure smooth execution from mandate to deal closing including but not limited to due diligence, structuring, documentation, ratings, investor marketing, roadshow planning, settlement, case studies and deal post-mortems
Requirements
At least 4-5 years of relevant origination and/or distribution experience relating to PF, LevFin and/or acquisition financing transactions
Degree level education – Undergraduate / Masters Degree from leading universities. CFA, also positively received
Good understanding and proficient in financial statement analysis, corporate lending and credit structuring
Understanding and familiarity with global capital markets products and investor marketing
Analytical background with strong attention to detail
Strong stakeholder management skills to collaborate with regional / global teams across departments
Strong interpersonal and networking skills
Strong communication skills
